Women's Lacrosse Hosts Elon and William & Mary This Weekend

TOWSON, Md. – Friday night the Towson University women's lacrosse team hosts Elon in the first conference home game of the year. The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) game of the week will be broadcast on LSN while the Towson Sports Network will have audio coverage as well. Live stats can be found on TowsonTigers.com.
 
Sunday afternoon the Tigers host William & Mary to cap the weekend with a noon start at Johnny Unitas ® Stadium. The game will be streamed on the Towson Sports Network with live stats on TowsonTigers.com.
 
Last Time Out
Towson is returning for the first home game in 10 days, coming off a loss at No. 10 James Madison over the weekend. The Tigers were held to one goal in the first half but came out strong in the second half, scoring six goals to match the Dukes' second half effort. Natalie Sulmonte led the team with three goals and one assist, with two ground balls and two draw controls. Shots were nearly even with a 30-29 advantage for the home team and 18-17 in shots on goal.
 
Scouting the Tigers
As the second week of conference action begins, the Tigers have an opportunity to take two wins at home and improve in the league standings. Towson is led by Sulmonte with 28 goals and five assists for 33 points and leads the team in draw controls with 34. Sophomore Kaitlin Thornton is second on the squad in scoring with 19 goals and leads in assists with 10 for 29 points. In ground balls Olivia Conti and Kiley Keating are tied for the team lead with 29 apiece. Sami Chenoweth leads the nation, the conference and the team in caused turnovers with 45 total for 4.09 per game. In the net, Keating has 105 saves on the year with a 44.7 save percentage.
 
Scouting the Phoenix
Elon enters the week fourth in the CAA with a 1-1 conference record. The Phoenix are coming off a 10-6 loss to Hofstra at home but took a win over Drexel to start conference action. Leading the offense is Me McGlynn with 30 goals and two assists for 32 points. Gillian Curran leads in assists with six while Kaley Thompson has a team-high 45 draw controls. Thompson is second on the team in goals with 22. Shannon Horan has the lead in caused turnovers with 12 while Paulina DiFatta leads in ground balls with 24. DiFatta is the Elon starter in goal, with 100 saves on the year and a 48.1 save percentage.
 
Scouting the Tribe
William and Mary enters the week winless in conference action with a 5-6 record overall. The Tribe are last in the CAA and will see Delaware before coming to town. Leading the team in goals is Belle Martire with 31, she has four assists for 35 points. Two players have six assists each to lead the team, while Starr Howard leads in draw controls with 58. There are five players with 10 or more caused turnover this season, and Elsa Rall has the team lead in grounds balls with 36. William & Mary has taken wins over George Mason, Old Dominion and VCU this season.
 
The Elon Series History
Friday will be the eighth all-time meeting between these two teams. Last season the Tigers and Phoenix met twice, once in the regular season and again in the CAA Tournament. Towson holds the series advantage 7-1 and has won the last two games. The lone Elon win in the series came in May of 2017 in the CAA Tournament, the largest margin of victory also came in 2017 as the Tigers took a 19-7 win at home.
 
The William & Mary Series
Sunday's meeting will be the 25th between the two teams. Towson holds the series advantage 16-8 and have won the last nine meetings. William & Mary's last win came in the 2009 season in Towson, a 12-9 victory for the Tribe. Last spring the Tigers posted their largest margin of victory in nine years against William & Mary, a 17-5 differential.
 
Weekend Events at Johnny Unitas ®
Friday night Towson is hosting One Love night in support of the organization. It will also be the Alumnae Appreciation Game with recognition on the field of returning women's lacrosse alumnae. On Sunday the Tigers will have Youth Day with a post-game clinic for children with the players running through drills, skills and games. To secure a spot, please contact Scott Casten (scasten@towson.edu). Youth are also admitted free all weekend while wearing jerseys and parents receive entry for $5.
 
Tewaaraton Award Watch List
Sami Chenoweth was added to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List announced on Thursday afternoon. She joins the list in the second wave of additions and represents the Tigers along with teammate Olivia Conti who was on the first watch list this season. This is the third straight year that Towson has had a player on the list after Conti was selected last year and Kaitlin Montalbano was on the list in 2017.
 
Only Three Remain
Three games remain in the regular season for the Tigers after this weekend. Next week Towson splits the weekend with a road trip to Hofstra on Friday night and a home game on Sunday at noon against Drexel. The Tigers end the regular season at Delaware on Saturday, April 27.
