TOWSON, Md. – In the 2019 regular season finale the Towson University women's lacrosse team will travel to Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) foe Delaware for a 1 p.m. opening draw.

Last Time Out
The Tigers are coming off a two-win weekend after taking down Hofstra last Friday on the road and defeating Drexel on Sunday with a 12-10 victory at home. In Sunday's win
Annie Sachs recorded a hat trick to lead Towson with eight other teammates scoring at least once. The home team scored first, four minutes into the game, opening a back-and-forth first half. At the half the Tigers led by three, but the second period saw more fight from the Dragons. Starting the second half, Drexel scored first on a woman-up goal. Delaware Series
One of the longest opponents for Towson, the Delaware series dates back to 1977. The Tigers have won seven of the last eight meetings. In 2018 Towson took a 16-7 win in Johnny Unitas ® Stadium, the last time Towson traveled to Delaware resulted in an 8-5 victory for the road team. The Blue Hens lead the series 31-21.
Scouting the Tigers
Entering the regular season finale, the Tigers have secured the two-seed for the CAA Championship next weekend at James Madison. Towson will face the three seed Hofstra on Friday. Leading the offense is
Natalie Sulmonte with 44 goals and eight assists for 52 points, she also leads the team in draw controls with 54.
Kaitlin Thornton leads the team in assists with 12 and has scored 26 goals this season as well. Defensively the Tigers are led by
Sami Chenoweth with 59 caused turnovers and
Kiley Keating with 39 ground balls. Keating is the starting goalie for Towson and has grabbed 140 saves this season, including a season-best 15 against Penn State in the season opener.
Scouting the Blue Hens
Delaware enters the weekend with a 7-9 overall record, 1-4 in the CAA. Delaware has taken wins over UConn, Oregon and Louisville this season with the single conference win over Drexel. Leading the offense is Christine Long with 41 goals, while Mia DeRuggiero leads in points with 62 from 16 goals and 46 assists. Caroline Farley leads the Blue Hens in draw controls with 70, while Chantae Simms leads in caused turnovers 39 and ground balls with 45. In the net Kate Brewster has played the majority of minutes for Delaware, with 112 saves and a .416 save percentage. Brewster is third in the CAA in goals against average while Long is fourth in the league in goals per game.

Thornton Named CAA Rookie of the Week
For the second time this season,
Kerri Thornton has collected Rookie of the Week accolades from the CAA. Announced Monday, the Long Island, New York native finished with four goals, five draw controls, one caused turnover and a ground ball over the weekend. She scored the second-most goals in Friday's win over Hofstra and had two draw controls in a necessary conference win in her hometown. Sunday she scored two goals once more, and had a good defensive showing as she caused a turnover and grabbed a ground ball to force a failed clear by Drexel.
Tigers in National Stats
With the final weekend of the regular season upon us, one member of the Towson squad is looking to finish the season with a major title.
Sami Chenoweth still leads the nation in caused turnovers per game. The Manchester, Maryland native averages 3.87 per game and caused a career-high eight turnovers in the season opener at Penn State.
Olivia Conti joins her in the nation's leaders at 10th with 2.33 per game. As a team the Tigers are ninth nationally in caused turnovers per game, averaging 11.6 per game. Senior
Natalie Sulmonte is currently 48th nationally in goals per game, averaging 2.93 per game.
2019 CAA Championship
Next Friday, May 3, begins the 2019 CAA Championship for women's lacrosse. The tournament will be hosted by James Madison at Sentara Park. Friday's games are slated for 4 and 7 p.m. with the Tigers facing Hofstra in the evening game. JMU will play a yet-to-be-determined opponent in the 4 p.m. game. The title game will be played on Sunday, May 5 at 12:05 p.m. All games will be broadcast by Lax Sports Network.
