Schoening Qualifies for 2020 Olympic Trials

TOWSON, Md. – Rising senior Jacki Schoening of the Towson University women's swimming and diving team competed within one of the most prestigious USA Swimming club meets at the Charlotte Ultra swim meet this past weekend.

The meet's main purpose was to serve as a tune up for the USA Summer National Championships later this summer in Palo Alto, California as well as being the first time Schoening would be able to qualify for the 2020 US Olympic trials.

The business-marketing major competed in her three signature events the 50, 100 and 200 breaststroke. With a time of 1:10.70 in the 100 she placed fifth overall and since her time was under 1:10.99 she qualified for the Olympic Trials.

"This was a great race for Jacki to have at this point in the summer" said Jake Shrum, the Tigers head coach of swimming and diving. "Qualifying for Olympic Trials is really one of, if not the biggest, pinnacle in American club swimming."

Meets like this are always important for upcoming seniors. It not only sets the tone for the upcoming school year but give's the student-athletes a little more ease know that one of thing things they have been working for has been accomplished.

"It's going to be a fantastic meet for Jacki to attend after graduating this upcoming spring," said Shrum. "Getting the qualifying time now takes a little pressure off her swims at Nationals, where we hope to go all best times at!"
