TOWSON, Md. – Three Towson University football players were placed on the 2019 STATS FCS Preseason All-America Team, announced on Tuesday.
 
Aidan O'Neill and Shane Simpson earned First Team recognition while Tom Flacco is on the Second Team.
 
O'Neill has been named a preseason All-American for the third time this year, including HERO Sports and Athlon Sports.  Simpson and Flacco were each named HERO Sports Preseason All-Americans in early June along with Yeedee Thaenrat.
 
Towson has three of the 14 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) players on the 2019 STATS FCS Preseason All-America Team.
 
O'Neill enters his senior season as Towson's all-time leader in field goals, setting a program record with 22 made field goals in 2018.  The four-time All-American kicker in 2018 was 75.9% on field goals and 97.7% on extra points, being second in FCS with 1.83 field goals made per game and seventh with nine points per game.
 
Simpson, a redshirt senior in 2019, finished second in all of FCS last season with 171.5 all-purpose yards a game to total 2,058 yards.  The five-time All-American in 2018 earned CAA Special Teams Player of the Year had 12 total touchdowns and earned All-CAA honors at each running back, kick returner and punt returner.
 
The reigning CAA and ECAC Offensive Player of the Year, Flacco finished fifth in the 2018 Walter Payton Award voting after being third in FCS in total offense and fifth in passing yards.  A redshirt senior in 2019, the quarterback was Towson's leader in passing yards with 3,251 and rushing yards with 742, earning 2018 HERO Sports All-America status.
