TOWSON, Md. – The Tiger Athletic Fund offered a day out on the course to Tiger fans, supporters, and former athletes to support student-athlete scholarships and to kick-off a new year of Towson Athletics.
Over 120 people attended the ninth annual Hall of Fame Black & Gold Golf outing on Monday, Aug. 12 at Eagle's Nest Country Club in support of the Tiger Athletic Fund, which provides athletic resources for over 500 Tiger student-athletes. The invitational and dinner program raised money through ticket sales, sponsorships, and auction item sales.
The event began with check-in, swag pick-up, lunch, a pre-event pump-up from Head Coach
Diane Richardson and an inaugural putt by
Tim Leonard. From there, golfers were sent on their way to participate in an 18-hole, best ball scramble.
Throughout the course, there were various opportunities to "meet the Tigers" with numerous student-athlete and team facts at every hole plus head coaches and administrators on site. TU women's golfer, Sarah Perine, offered to take drives and share her gratitude to donors and fans alike.
Following golf, participants and volunteers sat down for dinner in the Eagle's Nest club house to celebrate the winners of the day and listen to an outlook for the year from Director of Athletics,
Tim Leonard. The program was hosted by notable Towson alumnus Keith Mills '79. Prizes, raffle winners and trophies were awarded.
Following dinner, participants bid on various silent-auction items including professional sport ticket packages, framed memorabilia, Towson community experiences, vacation rentals, golf foursomes and more.
All proceeds are placed into the Tiger Athletic Fund unrestricted account in addition to the Athletic Hall of Fame, allowing the athletic department to allocate funds to the areas of greatest need throughout the 2019-20 year and to benefit the 2019 Hall of Fame Induction. This year's tournament raised over $38,000 to be used throughout the school year.
"This signature event has become a tradition among our family and friends of Towson Athletics," mentioned
Dan Crowley, Senior Associate Athletic Director of Development. "I want to sincerely thank all of the sponsors and participants who took the time to be a part of this event and making it tremendous success."
Towson Athletics would like to thank the volunteers who made this event possible: Kurt Vacovsky, Rich Bader, Janet Kines, Jeannie Kihn, Monica Leonard, Louise Miller, Lauren Gates, Teresa Hardin, Alexa Demski, Alex Church, Bonnie Fry, Ed Molen, Timm Green and TU men's golf head coach,
