TOWSON, Md. – Towson University sophomore guard
Allen Betrand was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men's Basketball Player of the Week Monday.
It's the first time in his career that Betrand earned player of the week recognition.
He was the offensive catalyst after leading Towson to a dominant 2-0 week in CAA play. The Tigers continued their recent strong play over victories in Drexel on national television and Delaware. The Tigers won both games by double digits after leading by 22 points at halftime in each contest. The Tigers have won eight of the last nine matchups over the Dragons and 11 of the last 15 meetings against the Blue Hens.
A Philadelphia native and graduate of Roman Catholic High School, Betrand averaged 20.5 points, going a combined 17-of-26 from the floor as the Tigers pushed their winning streak to three. In Towson's 89-73 win over Drexel, Betrand posted a career-high 23 points in 29 minutes. The sophomore followed up the effort with 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting in Towson's 84-68 victory over Delaware.
Betrand is playing the best basketball of his career. He's scored in double figures in seven consecutive contests and 14 times this season. For the season, Betrand is averaging 13.9 points per game, which is second on the team behind senior guard
Brian Fobbs' 15.7 point per game average.
However, in six CAA games, Betrand is seventh in the conference in scoring (18.2 points per game), 11th in 3-point field goal percentage (44.0), 12th in free-throw percentage (82.4), 14th in 3-pointers made per game (1.8) and tied for 15th in field goal percentage (50.0).
The Tigers conclude a three-game homestand by hosting James Madison on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. You can find tickets for that game by
