New School Records Highlights the Two-Day Weekend for Indoor Track & Field

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. – Numerous school records were broken as the Towson University indoor track and field team competed in the two day Penn State Nationals meet on Friday, Jan. 31-Feb. 1.

At least four school records were broken and numerous personal-records were made during the weekend.

How it Happened
  • Crystal Johnson wins heat 2 with a school record in the 60-meter preliminaries with a time of 7.45 leading a trio of Tigers who made the semi-final round. Christina Riggins also ran a personal-best 7.61.
  • Shamika Burton finished with a time of 25.39, while Riggins finished with a time of 25.58 in the 200-meter dash.
  • In the 60-meter dash semi-final, Johnson set another record shaving some time off finishing in 7.42. Shamika Burton jumped in the personal-record party with a 7.54. In the finals Johnson finished with a score of 7.40 coming in third.
  • Siani Sellers finished with a time of 41.69 in the 300-meter dash.
  • Paige Keefer ran a collegiate personal-record in the 600-meter, with a time of 1:35.75
  • Alison Betler ran the 1000-meter in 3:04.25 seconds.
  • Helnsarah Penda qualifies for the 60-meter hurdle final with a personal-best time of 8.58. In the finals she ran a time of 8.46.
  • Ani Boghossian-James ran a personal time of 9.24 in the 60-meter hurdles, winning heat 1. Christina Marion runs her first 60 hurdle race and placed third in the same heat.
  • The 4x4 team ran a time of 3:55.38 in heat four.
  • In the distance medley the Tigers ran a time of 12:18.56.
  • Hayley Horvath broke her own indoor record with a height or 4.07 meters (13' 4.25") in the pole vault.
  • Zellie Charles jumped a 10th place finish, (5.59m, 18-04.25").
  • Adia Cavalier tied for third in the triple jump, (12.20m, 40-00.50").
  • Lauren Coleman finished the shot put as the top collegian and new school record holder with a mark of 16.12m (52-10.75").
  • Elisia Lancaster finished in third and is now second all-time with a throw of 19.35m (63-06.00") in the weight throw. Michella Obijiaku came in fourth with a throw of 19.14m (62-09.50").
 
UP Next
Towson returns to action Thursday, Feb. 13-14 for the Don Kirby Elite Invitational in Albuerque, New Mexico. Some Tigers will also head to Boston for the David Hemery Invitational on Friday, Feb. 14.
