Play4Kay and Autism Games Ahead This Weekend for Women's Hoops

TOWSON, Md. – This weekend the Towson University women's basketball team returns to SECU Arena for the penultimate home weekend series of the regular season.
 
Friday night the Tigers host UNCW at 7 p.m. and Sunday the College of Charleston comes to town. Both games will be broadcast on FloSports and the Towson Sports Network will have audio streaming as well. Scouting the Tigers
Towson enters the week with a 10-11 overall mark and 5-5 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action. Leading the offense is Kionna Jeter with 18.6 points per game, with Nukiya Mayo averaging 15.7 points per game and Q. Murray posting 10.8. Mayo leads the Tigers in rebounds with 7.9 per game while Murray paces the offense with 4.9 assists per game. Towson is coming off a three-game losing streak while being on the road since January 31 at Drexel.
 
Scouting the Seahawks
UNCW comes to town with a 6-16 overall record and 3-8 in the CAA. Gigi Smith continues to lead the Seahawks offense with 15 points a night with Lacey Suggs averaging 12.5. UNCW is coming off a home loss to William & Mary on Sunday, a 63-55 loss. The Seahawks have also lost their last three games and have dropped seven of their last eight games.
 
The UNCW Series
Friday will be the 37th meeting between Towson and UNCW. The Seahawks lead the series 24-12. Towson has won the last two meetings and last season took down UNCW at home 82-61 with the most points ever scored against the Seahawks. The series is tied at Towson with an 8-8 even mark.
 
Scouting the Cougars
Charleston will face James Madison before coming to Towson on Sunday. Entering the weekend the Cougars are 11-11 and are 4-7 in conference play. Charleston has dropped its last two games against William & Mary and Elon. Latrice Perkins leads the offense with 13.9 points per game, two of her teammates are also averaging double figures. Arynn Eady is leading the team in rebounds with 9.3 per game while Tyler Collins averages 3.2 assists per game.
 
The Charleston Series
A younger series, Sunday will be the 17th meeting between Towson and Charleston. The Tigers lead the series 11-4 and have won the last four meetings. The last meeting at SECU Arena ended in a Towson victory of 87-61.
 
Tigers in CAA Stats
Kionna Jeter is currently third in the CAA in scoring (18.6 ppg) while Nukiya Mayo holds sixth (15.7) the duo are averaging 34.2 points per game together, the second-best scoring partners in the conference behind William & Mary's Eva Hodgson and Victoria Reynolds. The scoring tandem also appear in the rebounding top-10, Mayo fifth (7.9 rpg) and Jeter seventh (6.8 rpg). Q. Murray is second in the conference in assists (4.9 per game) and is first in assist/turnover ratio (2.3). Mayo is ranked for a third time in blocked shots, she is third in the CAA (1.5 bpg) and Ryan Holder is second (1.6 bpg).Jeter leads the league in steals (3.1 spg).
 
Jeter Ranked 31st Nationally in Points Per Game
Last season Kionna Jeter reached a peak in the top-10 of scorers nationally. She is currently 31st in points per game (18.6) as of Feb. 12. She is also 12th in steals per game (3.14 avg.) and 17th in steals (66). Q. Murray holds it down on the assist category, she is currently 47th in assists per game (4.9), 46th in assist/turnover ratio (2.1) and 60th in assists (103). Nukiya Mayo is currently 48th nationally in double-doubles with eight this season.
 
Towson participating in #Play4Kay National Free Throw Challenge
On Feb. 14 the Tigers will host their annual Pink Game. This year Towson is partnering with Play4Kay to support cancer survivors and those battling cancer. Tigers In The Community
The Towson University athletics department deems community service as one of its highest priorities to give back to the Greater Baltimore area. For the seventh consecutive year, the department exceeded 10,000 hours of community service to the Greater Baltimore region, finishing with 11,162 hours of community service in the 2018-19 academic season. Towson ranked No. 1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition. Towson had a 97% participation rate, attended 118 community service opportunities and volunteered with 19 organizations. Towson won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.
