ROCK HILL, S.C. - Another shutout for senior pitcher
Julia Smith-Harrington helped the Towson University softball team defeat UNCG 7-0 in the second game of the afternoon during the Winthrop tournament.
The first game of the morning saw the Tigers fall to Eastern Kentucky 7-2 after Smith-Harrington hit a home run in the top of the sixth.
During game two against UNCG, Smith-Harrington pitched her second shutout of the weekend to help seal the victory for the Tigers.
How it Happened- Game 1
- EKU got on board first in the bottom of the second inning.
- The Tigers evened the game at 1-1 after a fly out to left field scored Madison Wilson.
- A homer by the Colonials Carly Robinson and two different doubles added four more runs for EKU and they took the 5-1 lead.
- Smith-Harrington's homer in the top of the sixth cut the lead to 5-2.
- EKU sealed the deal with two more runs in the bottom of sixth.
- Sara Johnson threw 4.2 innings with one strikeout.
How it Happened-Game 2
- A lead-off home run by Samantha Carson got the Tigers on the board first. A single by Jaclyn Mounie to center field scored Sara Johnson and Towson ended the inning with one more run on four hits to take a 2-0 lead.
- In the bottom of the fifth, Towson's first three hitters reached base and a single by Lauren Ringhieser scored one run for the Tigers. Â The Tigers added another run on a passed ball. Then a double by Jessica Swistock added the rest of the runs. (7-0 Towson)
- UNCG got one hit in the top of the seventh but Smith-Harrington struck out their last batter swinging to end the game.
- Smith-Harrington threw 7 innings and had six strikeouts.
