SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The weather finally let up and the Towson University softball team took advantage defeating Saint Francis 4-3 on the last day of the USC-Upstate tournament.
The Tigers concluded the tournament in Cyrill Stadium going 1-1 after only playing two games the entire weekend.
A huge fifth inning for Towson gave them the advantage and
Ashley Cruise helped sealed the deal.
How it Happened
- A run by Saint Francis' Jordan Frank gave the Red Flash an early 1-0 lead in the top of third.
- The bats got rolling for the Tigers in the fifth inning starting with a single to left field by Jessica Swistock. Jaclyn Mounie reached on an error and after a wild pitch by Saint Francis' pitcher both runners advanced scoring Swistock and the Tigers tied game.
- Julia Jackson gave the Tigers their next hit advancing Mounie to third, then a triple to right field by Julia Smith-Harrington gave the Tigers a 3-1 lead.
- A single by Madison Wilson scored Smith-Harrington and the Tigers ended the fifth inning with a 4-1 lead.
- The Red Flash add two more runs in the top of the sixth after Brittney Crawford and Allyn Bezjak got hits. (Towson leads 4-3)
- The game ended with Lauren Ringhiser throwing out the tying run at the plate.

Inside the Numbers
- Towson had four runs on eight hits and one error.
- Sara Johnson moved to 1-0 on the season after pitching six innings and having 10 strikeouts.
- Cruise earned the save pitching one inning for the Tigers.

Towson competes in the Winthrop Tournament, Friday, Feb. 14-16 in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The Tigers will first compete against Holy Cross at 10 a.m. inside Terry Field.
