McLean Named Towson’s Male CAA Scholar-Athlete

RICHMOND, Va. -- A senior on the Towson University men's lacrosse team, Jake McLean was selected as a CAA Institutional Male Scholar-Athlete Presented by SonaBank. The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) made its announcement Wednesday afternoon.

McLean, who carries a 3.73 cumulative grade point average as an entrepreneurship major, was one of 10 male student-athletes from the CAA's full-time membership selected to represent each institution. UNCW tennis player Daniel Groom was selected as the CAA Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Joining McLean and Groom as Institutional representatives are: Kristopher Kuhn (Baseball, Charleston), Thomas Aloe (Men's Lacrosse, Delaware), Connor Schmidt (Men's Golf, Drexel), Mike Borucki (Baseball, Elon), Tareq Coburn (Men's Basketball, Hofstra), Fox Semones (Baseball, James Madison), Josh Winkler (Baseball, Northeastern), Brandon Raquet (Baseball, William & Mary).

On the field, McLean served as a co-captain in 2020. The Encinitas, California native played in two games this spring before suffering an upper body injury. He scored one goal on two shots as a two-way midfielder, grabbing five ground balls along the way. Through the course of his career, McLean has been a member of two CAA Championship teams (2017, 2019), including a run to Championship Weekend in his rookie season.

McLean suited up in 35 games for the Black & Gold, making 19 starts. The La Costa Canyon High School product potted 14 goals and logged seven assists for 21 points. A strong wing player on the faceoff, McLean snagged 60 ground balls including 33 last spring.
