Women's Lacrosse Travels to No. 6 Stony Brook

TOWSON, Md. – The 2020 journey continues for the Towson University women's lacrosse team with a mid-week trip to No. 6/6 Stony Brook.

Last Time Out
The Tigers enter the week after taking down High Point on Saturday at home, a 12-11 victory. Both Shelby Stack and Blair Pearre scored three times for the Tigers, Stack with the game-winner, in Towson's first victory of the season.
 
Scouting the Tigers
Rookie midfielder Blair Pearre leads the Tigers with 11 goals, while senior Shelby Stack has nine goals and three assists for a team-best 12 points. Sophomore attack Molly Lynch paces Towson in assists with five. Senior defender Olivia Conti has won 14 draws so far this season, her fellow captain Sami Chenoweth has 10 caused turnovers to lead the Tigers. Between the pipes freshman Carly Merlo has 32 saves through 225 minutes played and 100 shots faced. Towson has a 1-3 record with a tough loss at No. 12/10 Loyola on its last road trip.
 
Scouting the Seawolves
Stony Brook enters the week ranked No. 6 in both the IWLCA and Inside Lacrosse polls. The Seawolves' best win this season was over No. 4 Syracuse on their opening game, a 17-16 victory. Stony Brook also defeated Ohio State before falling to No. 8 Florida over the weekend. Pacing the offense is Ally Kennedy with 12 goals and four assists for 16 points. Taryn Ohlmiller has five assists, while Kennedy has 25 draw controls this season. Kameron Halsall is Stony Brook's starting goalie, she has 21 saves and 33 goals allowed. Halsall holds a .389 save percentage through three games.
 
The Stony Brook Series
Thursday will be the sixth meeting between Towson and Stony Brook. The two last met on March 1, 2019 at Johnny Unitas ® Stadium where the Seawolves came out on top 14-8. Stony Brook has won all five meetings dating back to a post-season matchup in College Park, Maryland in 2013. Towson has not scored more than nine goals against the Seawolves in series history.
 
Pearre Named CAA Rookie of the Week
Collecting the first weekly honor of the season, freshman Blair Pearre was named CAA Rookie of the Week on Tuesday. Last week against High Point the midfielder scored three goals for her third consecutive hat trick. Pearre also won two draw controls, had three caused turnovers and picked up two ground balls. The Pikesville, Maryland native was one of two Tigers to score three times on the way to victory.
 
Nationally Ranked Tigers
Towson has two players in the top-10 leaderboards for national statistics. Senior defender Sami Chenoweth is seventh in the nation in caused turnovers per game, averaging 2.5. Freshman midfielder Blair Pearre is third nationally in free position goals per game, averaging 1.75. Rookie goalkeeper Carly Merlo appears at 17th in ground balls per game (3.5). Senior Shelby Stack is 26th in shot percentage (.643). As a team the Tigers are 10th nationally in caused turnovers per game (12.0) and 50th in draw controls per game (13.25).
 
Tigers in CAA Leaderboards
Conference play is still a handful of games away, but the Tigers are holding on to top-10 spots in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) stat categories. Blair Pearre is seventh in the league in goals, with 2.75 on average. Molly Lynch is second in the CAA in assists with 1.67. Shelby Stack is seventh in points per game with nine total, averaging three. Carly Merlo leads the league in ground balls per game with 3.5 on average. Sami Chenoweth is second in caused turnovers per game with 2.50. Olivia Conti is ninth in draw controls per game, averaging 3.5, Pearre is 10th with three.
 
Tigers In The Community
The Towson University athletics department deems community service as one of its highest priorities to give back to the Greater Baltimore area. For the seventh consecutive year, the department exceeded 10,000 hours of community service to the Greater Baltimore region, finishing with 11,162 hours of community service in the 2018-19 academic season. Towson ranked No. 1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition. Towson had a 97% participation rate, attended 118 community service opportunities and volunteered with 19 organizations. Towson won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.
