Mazza, Maloof Selected in MLL Draft

TOWSON, Md. -- A pair of former Towson University men's lacrosse players were selected in the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Collegiate Draft Monday evening.

Attackman Jon Mazza was selected 10th overall and in the second round by the Philadelphia Barrage while classmate and midfielder Grant Maloof was grabbed in the seventh round as the 42nd overall pick by the reigning MLL Champion Chesapeake Bayhawks.

Mazza will join former teammates Alex Woodall and Brendan Sunday, along with former Tiger Spencer Ford, who serves as the head coach for the franchise.

A 2016 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) All-Rookie pick, Mazza played in 50 career games for the Black & Gold. The Tiger finished with 75 career points, hitting the 20-point plateau in three seasons. In a senior season shortened by COVID-19, Mazza racked eight goals with one assist.

Mazza, who hails from Davidsonville, Maryland, was a member of two CAA Champion teams in 2016 and 2017, including a run to the Final Four in his sophomore season.

A fellow Davidsonville, Marylander, Maloof served as a co-captain for the 2020 squad. He was a preseason All-CAA pick in 2020 as well, while earning All-CAA Second Team plaudits a year ago. The South River High School product posted 64 points in his 39 games played, including a career-best 24 goals and 11 assists last season. In his redshirt sophomore campaign, Maloof notched 25 points as a midfielder (20g, 5a). He was a member of three CAA Champion teams (2016, 2017, 2019) and helped Towson to the Final Four as a reserve player in 2017.
