TOWSON, Md. – The 2021 Towson University women's lacrosse team will face three teams ranked in the Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine Division I Preseason Top 20. In the previous 10 seasons with Sonia LaMonica at the helm, the Tigers have won 110 games and earned spots in the NCAA Tournament six times.
 
LaMonica's squad will feature nine starters from last year's team, including All-American defender Sami Chenoweth and top goal scorers Blair Pearre and Shelby Stack. The 2021 team has 13 new faces, including talented transfers Natalie Miller (Maryland), Nikki Sliwak (Maryland) and Olivia Malamphy (Boston College).
 
"We didn't get to practice as a full team in the fall so chemistry is the biggest question mark and the biggest point of emphasis heading into the spring," LaMonica said. "In terms of play within drills and half field scrimmaging that we had throughout the fall, I was really taken with the talent that we have."
 
The Tigers, who are scheduled to play 15 regular season games, open the campaign at Mt. St. Mary's on February 13 then play four consecutive games at its new home, the newly-renovated Tiger Field. Towson will take on UMBC (February 19), No. 3 Loyola (February 24), George Mason (February 28) and No. 5 Stony Brook (March 6).
 
Following road games at Temple (March 10), Georgetown (March 13) and St. Joseph's (March 20), Towson then plays six of the final seven regular season games against Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) opponents.
 
Seven CAA schools participate in women's lacrosse and will play a regional schedule. Towson is in the North Division with Hofstra, Drexel and Delaware. The North Division will play a single round robin within the division plus an additional game against the closest opponent. The three South Division teams (James Madison, Elon and William & Mary) will play a double round robin within their division. Five teams – the top two in each division plus one at-large selection – will advance to the CAA Championship hosted by James Madison on May 6, 7 and 9.
 
Towson women's lacrosse has won seven Colonial Athletic Association tournament titles since 2005, including four under LaMonica. 
 
The Tigers open CAA play at Delaware on March 27. After hosting High Point on April 3 in the final nonconference game on the schedule, the Tigers take on William & Mary under the lights at Tiger Field on April 10.
 
Towson hits the road for CAA games against No. 13 James Madison (April 18) and Drexel (April 23). 
 
The Tigers return home to finish the regular season against Hofstra (April 25) and Delaware (May 1).
