Men’s Golf Wraps Day One of Howard Bison Invitational

ROCKVILLE, Md. -- The Towson University men's golf team wrapped up day one of the Howard Bison Invitational Sunday afternoon, led by Jeremy Summerson who is currently sixth overall in the field.

Summerson carded a 76 and 75 in the first two rounds of action at The North Course at Woodmont Country Club. Both rounds were par 72s with yardage in the first round at 7,258 and the second round at 7,342.

Towson sits in fifth place with a combined 620 (307/313) on the day. Bucknell University leads at 610 (306/304) with William & Mary in second at 611 (311/300). Princeton is third at 612 (309/303) with the host Bison at fourth with a 619 (301/318). Virginia Union is sixth with a 651 (331/320) followed by Maryland Eastern Shore at 654 (333/321).

How it Happened
  • Summerson improved on his second trip around the course with a 75, aided by a birdie on the par 5 10th hole. The Junior put together three birdies in the opening round, but carded two double bogeys to finish with a 76.
  • Likewise, Justin Griffith was consistent on the day with a 77 in the opening round followed by a 78, which included a birdie and 12 pars. Julian Gonzalez also carded a 155 for the first two rounds, going 74 in the first and 81 in the second. Gonzalez and Griffith are tied for 11th overall in the Invitational.
  • Phillip Minnehan (160-81/79) and Brad Riley (162-80/82) rounded out the scoring for Towson and are 27th and 30th overall at the Invitational.
  • Brad Freyberger made his Towson debut, playing as an individual. The rookie is tied for 22nd overall with a 158, putting in rounds of 80 and 78 on the day.
Behind the Numbers
  • Freyberger currently leads the field on the Par 3s  with an even score across all the Par 3s in the first two rounds. He is one of two players with an even score on those holes.
  • Summerson is currently tied for first in scoring average on the Par 5s at Woodmont's North Course, sitting at -3 on the long holes with an average score of 4.63. He has the third-best scoring average on the Par 4s as well with an average score of 4.15. 
  • Towson had the second-most birdies in the first two rounds with 17, tied with Princeton. Bucknell leads the Invitational with 21 total.

  • The Tigers conclude the Howard Bison Invitational on Monday.
  • Action begins at 8 a.m. on holes one and 10 at Woodmont's North Course.
  • All five scoring Tigers will begin on the 10th hole. Riley leads at 8 a.m. followed by Minnehan at 8:10 a.m. Griffith tees off at 8:20 a.m. with Gonzalez and Summerson at 8:30 and 8:40, respectively.
  • Freyberger is the lone Tiger off on the first hole, teeing up at 9 a.m.
