Summerson’s Second Round Leads Towson at Prospect Bay

GRASONVILLE, Md. -- It was a huge second round for Towson University men's golfer Jeremy Summerson as he helped lead the Tigers near the top of the team standings Saturday afternoon at Prospect Bay Country Club.

Summerson carded a 64 in the second round, going eight-under-par for the lowest round of the day in the Towson Fall Invitational. Summerson capped the afternoon with an eagle on the Par 5 18th to finish the back nine with a 31. Summerson is one of four Tigers to card a 64 or better in a single round.

As a team, Towson is currently tied for second with a combined 581, dropping 15 strokes from the first round. Towson logged a 283 in the second round of the day, the lowest round by any team on Saturday. Robert Morris leads the field with a 574 as Towson is tied with Howard's 581 as well. 

How it Happened
  • Bouncing back from a slow first round with a +6, Summerson navigated the 6,624 yard course with a bogey-free second round 64. He carded six birdies in addition to his eagle on 18. 
  • Julian Gonzalez was in second for the Tigers, posting a 144 (75-69) including a three-under-par second round. He logged five birdies and just two holes over par on the second round effort.
  • Brad Riley sits in third for the Tigers with a 145, posting Towson's best first-round score with a 69 with a 76 on the second trip around the course.
  • Freshman Philip Minnehan is in fourth for the Tigers at 152, also recovering in the second round with a +2 74 after carding a 78 in the opening 18 holes.
  • Justin Griffith sits fifth for Towson, logging a 76 and 78 on the first and second rounds, respectively. 
  • Towson entered a second team, composed of Brad Freyberger (70-75-145), Branden Nguyen (75-75-150), Jeffrey Mankins (75-77-152) and Vincent Fannucchi (76-80).
Behind the Numbers
  • Summerson is currently fourth overall in the individual standings, with Gonzalez close behind at sixth. Freyberger and Riley are tied for seventh in the 45-player field.
  • Towson's A grouping continued its strong season on the Par 5s, averaging a 4.83 on the long holes, scoring a -7 across the Par 5s. Summerson was one of four players to card an eagle during the first two rounds.
  • Freyberger had the fourth-most birdies on the day with nine while Riley logged eight, sitting fifth in the category. Nguyen had the third-most pars with 27 on the day.
