TOWSON, Md. – Nia Christopher's exceptional season has earned her 2021 NCAA Division I Women's All-East Region recognition, announced by United Soccer Coaches (USC) this week.
Christopher was named to the All-Region Third Team. She is the third Towson Tiger to earn all-region honors in program history and first under head coach
Katherine Vettori. Emily Banes was All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team in 2013 while Melissa Gomes was All-Mid-Atlantic Region Third Team in 2010.
This year, the sophomore forward from Bermuda earned the third-highest goal-scoring season in Towson history with 13 goals, including five game-winners. She added a pair of assists in 18 games played.
Christopher scored goals in eight contests, including four multi-goal contests: against Saint Joseph's, Mount St. Mary's, Delaware State and William & Mary.
Her season performance also earned her an All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) First Team selection at forward, the first time a Tiger was All-CAA First Team since 2014. She was the College Soccer News Women's Player of the Week on Sept. 6 and was a two-time CAA Offensive Player of the Week.
In 2021, Towson earned its first winning season since 2007, concluding 8-7-3 overall. The Tigers finished tied for third in the CAA in goals scored and goals allowed, putting four players on the CAA All-Conference Teams: Christopher,
Jasmine Hamid,
Phoebe Canoles and
Riley Melendez.
