Women’s Swimming Caps Senior Day with Win Over Mount

TOWSON, Md. -- In its lone home meet of the 2020-21 season, the Towson University women's swimming team handled its business against visiting Mount St. Mary's Saturday afternoon at Burdick Pool.

The Tigers (2-1) won every swimming event in which they didn't exhibition swimmers, topping The Mount 153-97.

How it Happened
  • The day opened with Towson's 200-yard medley relay B Team edging the A Team by half a second. Suzannah Mills, Meagan Clark, Elise Devlin and Gabrielle Cervone touched first in 1 minute, 53.18 seconds.
  • Lydia Plasser and Liz Jones were the lone competitors in the 1,000-yard freestyle. The former won the event in 10:54.53 while the later touched in 11:07.14.
  • Towson swept the 200-yard freestyle, paced by Clark in 1:55.81, Parker Schulz in 1:59.34 and Cervone in 2:02.68.
  • Another sweep in the 100-yard backstroke saw Hailey Ritter in first (58.77) with Mills (59.38) and Holly Greenleaf (1:01.37) rounding out the podium.
  • Shay Walker took first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:08.67 with Andie Weitzman (1:10.24) and Lauren Cavanagh (1:12.86) in second and third. 
  • The 200-yard butterfly was a tight race with Samantha Casolo (2:08.48) finishing first with Karlee Carminati (2:11.38) edging Maddie Frick (2:11.87).
  • Katie Nunez touched first in the 50-yard freestyle with the clock at 24.81. Maddie Mince took second at 24.87 and Tiffany Matulis at 25.68 in third.
  • Ritter won the 100-yard freestyle in 53.37 while Alex Diacumakos took first in the 200-yard backstroke, halting the clock at 2:12.75. Weitzman then won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:29.25.
  • Kasey Gamache touched first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.72 while Lauren Cavanagh won the 200-yard IM in 2:18.55.

  • The women had a solid meet after a very tough week of training. We had a good mix of fast swims in secondary events and a number of freshmen (Shay Walker, Andie Weitzman) winning events for the first time in their young careers, which is always exciting.

Up Next for Towson
  • The Tigers round out the regular season next week with a split weekend at Delaware.
  • Diving events are slated for a 3 p.m. start on Friday, March 5 before swimming events on Saturday, March 6 at 11 a.m.
  • Both events will take place at Rawstrom Natatorium in downtown Newark, Delaware.
