Men’s Lacrosse Receives Votes in USILA Poll

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- On the cusp of a fresh start, the Towson University men's lacrosse program earned mention in the Preseason USILA Division I Coaches' Poll. The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) released its season-opening poll Wednesday morning.

Towson received two votes in the preseason poll. This marks the eighth-straight year the Tigers are at least receiving votes to begin the season. Spring 2013 was the last time the Tigers were not mentioned in the first USILA Coaches' Poll of the season.

Duke was voted first with 280 points, including all 14 first-place votes. Maryland and Syracuse tied for second with 254 points. North Carolina was fourth with 228 points with Virginia fifth behind 209 points.

Four 2021 Towson opponents were in the top 20: Virginia (5), Loyola (12), UMass (14), and Richmond (19).

Towson, the reigning Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) champions, will look to rebound from a slow start last season. Towson returns five of its top six point getter from a year ago, including fifth-year senior Brody McLean (9g, 3a), who led the Tigers a year ago.

On defense, Towson returns senior Koby Smith, a multi-All-America Second Team selection and the CAA Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. In net is veteran Shane Brennan while Shane Santora is the top faceoff specialist back in 2021.

Towson opens the 2021 campaign on the road at Klöckner Stadium against reigning NCAA Champion, No. 5/No. 6 Virginia. Game time is set for 4 p.m. with a broadcast on the ACC Network. Anish Shroff and Quint Kessenich will have the call.
