NEWARK, Del. -- Save their best for last, two members of the Towson University men's diving program finished second and third on the 1-meter board of the 2021 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Diving Championships Friday afternoon at Rawstrom Natatorium.

Senior Will Canny capped his 1-meter career with a second-place finish, putting up his best score of the finals in the sixth round with a 52.00. Ajani Dorner took third and had the best dive of the finals in the fifth round with a 69.75.

How it Happened

• Dorner and Canny finished second and third in the preliminary round of the men's 1-meter diving event.
• A sophomore, Dorner finished with a 251.10 in the prelims.
• Canny, diving in his final CAA Championships, took third in the preliminary round with a 246.15.
• UNCW's Kolbein Bjugan finished first with a 312.45.
• Canny's third-place score was nearly 30 points better than fourth place, a 218.00 by Drexel's William Seely.
• In the finals, Canny was consistent, putting up scores in the mid to upper 40s throughout, with the lone exception on his third dive. His final round pushed his score to a 278.60.
• Dorner was slow out of the gates and started with a 22.10, but improved his scores in each subsequent round. He peaked with a 69.75 in the fifth round, the high score for a single dive in the men's 1-meter dive. The sophomore finished with a 254.70.
• Bjugan won his second straight title with a 306.90.

• The Tigers return to Rawstrom Natatorium on Saturday for the 3-meter diving event on the men's side.
