Women's Golf Finishes in Fifth Place at CAA Championship

Greensboro N.C. – The Towson University women's golf team finished in fifth place out of seven teams in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship on Tuesday afternoon to finish its 2021 spring season.

The Tigers (321-309-309) ended the tournament with 939 strokes (+75). Towson's collective round score of 309 they shot both Monday and Tuesday is its season-low.

"It's been a pleasure watching the team progress with the challenging landscape," head coach Shannon Briggs said. "Our program is moving in an exciting direction with an opportunity for a competitive fall campaign. The ladies know what they need to do to prepare as our team will continue to grow competitively."

James Madison finished in first place with a final score of 897 (+33). The College of Charleston (+38), Delaware (+52) and Elon (+62) followed. Placing after Towson was William & Mary (+87) and Hofstra (+160).

The top individual finisher was the Dukes' Kendall Turner as she tallied 220 strokes (+4). Two Cougars filled out the other two spots in the top-three.

Julia Calomiris (82-77-74) had her round of golf on the last day of the tournament, shooing just two-over. She shot one birdie and ended with a tournament score of 233 (+17). She jumped up five spots from yesterday to finish tied for 15th place with two other golfers.

"It was great to see Julia cap the season with another very solid round," Briggs said. "Her course management, confidence and maturity as a player has been great to witness this season."

Faith McIlvain (81-79-77) also had her best day on the final 18 holes, carding five-over. She birdied on the first and 11th hole to finish with 237 strokes (+21). She ended her first conference tournament tied for 21st.

Behind Calomiris, Jordan Cornelius (80-77-78) had the second-best overall finish for the Tigers, ending up tied for 18th place. Her tournament total score was 235 (+19). She shot two birdies in the final round.

Madison Barber (78-89-80) ended the tournament in 27th place and a tournament total of 247 (+31). She tallied two birdies in the third round.

Sarah Perine (82-76-82) shot 10-over in the third round to get her to a total of 240 strokes (+24). The senior shot one birdie on the 25th hole and ended tied for the 24th spot.

"We wish our lone senior Sarah Perine all the very best in her future endeavors," Briggs said. "A Tiger for life! Her mentorship and caring attitude to her teammates will certainly be missed!"
