Towson Women's Golf Places Fifth, Kuranga Finishes Top 10

WILLIAMSBURG, VA – Towson women's golf finishes fifth at the Tribe Invitational. Victoriah Kuranga placed eighth overall with a four-over par third round to bring her three-round total to 13-over par.

Kuranga continued her dominance over the ninth hole with her third birdie in three rounds on the 329-yard par four. Kuranga carded a 76 on the day to jump three spots to eighth overall.

Grace Oristian had the second-best finish in the tournament for the Tigers, shooting 19-over par to finish in 20th place. Oristian birdied her first hole of the third round before finishing the round at eight-over par.

The biggest jump of the day came from Luciana Calbimonte, who improved 16 spots between rounds two and three to place 41st overall, after shooting 76 (+4) on Tuesday. Calbimonte's day was highlighted by a birdie on the par three hole five.

Kanchana Kanchanaphiboon placed 33rd overall, carding a 23-over par three round total. Kanchanaphiboon had two birdies in her third round. Her first came on her second hole of the day, hole 14, before she recorded her next birdie 11 holes later on hole seven.

Joining Calbimonte in a double-digit ranking jump on the day was Payton Balliet who shot six-over par to jump 11 spots. Just like Kanchanaphiboon, she birdied holes seven and 14.

Towson finished the best of the four CAA teams competing at the event. The Tiger finished in fifth at 77-over par, NC A&T finished seventh at 86-over par, hosts William & Mary placed eighth at 98-over par with Monmouth rounding out the CAA team finishes at 101-over par in ninth place.

Dartmouth won the tournament and were the only team to shoot any round under par. Dartmouth's round one was four-under par. The Big Green shot the best of any team in every round of the tournament finishing first at 21-over par. Dartmouth also had the individual champion in Sophie Thai who was the only golfer to shoot under par at two-under.

The Tigers will be back on the course next week for the Mimosa Hills Invitational hosted by Appalachian State. The two-day event is set to start on March 30.
