MORGANTON, N.C. – The Towson women's golf team enters the clubhouse in ninth place with a two-round score of 66-over par after the first day of the Mimosa Hills Invitational.
Kanchana Kanchanaphiboon and
Victoriah Kuranga had the best individual performances by Tigers on the day. Both shot seven-over in the first round and eight-over in the second round to card +15 on the first day.
Kanchanaphiboon birdied hole 14 in both rounds today, the hole she started on. She also recorded birdies on hole one in the first round and hole 18 in the second round.
Kuranga only birdied the third hole in the second round, but steady par play carried her performance. She parred four straight holes twice, once in each round.
Grace Oristian had the best single round performance by a Tiger on the day with her six-over second round. Oristian started her second round with a birdie on hole 14. When she approached the course's front nine she birdied hole one and hole four to continue her low scoring round. On the day, Oristian shot 18-over par, the third best Towson result.
Kalyn Doss saw her first action of the season and finished the day at 21-over par. Doss birdied holes seven and eight during her first round.
Payton Balliet carded the fifth best score for Towson at 24-over par, highlighted by an eagle on hole eight.
Kyndall Campbell competed as an independent, scoring 28-over par with a first round tally of 12-over par.
Charlotte is in the team lead after the first day at 25-over par. The 49ers also have the individual leader in Pinky Chaisilprungruang, who is sitting at four-under par.
