Field Hockey to Host Hofstra and Drexel to End Regular Season at Home

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University field hockey team (2-4, 1-3) will finish out its regular season this weekend with a pair of games at the TU Field Hockey Complex. The Tigers are set to take on Hofstra (3-7, 0-2), Friday at 3 p.m. before welcoming Drexel (4-4, 2-2) on Sunday at 1 p.m. 

Both games will be streamed on the Tigers Sports Network.  

LAST TIME OUT 
In their last outing, Towson fell to James Madison, 3-0. Despite the score, the defense had an impressive game against a strong JMU offense. In goal, Lena Vandam made 13 saves against 23 shots faced. The graduate student made six saves in the fourth quarter to hold the Dukes scoreless in the 15:00 span. Kasey Bubel also recorded her fourth defensive save of the season. Kaiya Townsend Sabur put two shots on goal while Samantha Aljets registered one shot.  

SCOUTING THE TIGERS 
In the defensive zone, Towson is among the best in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). The team leads the conference with 8.17 saves per game and 49 total  for a save percentage of .778. The Tigers' five defensive saves on the season also leads the league. Next in the rankings is James Madison with just two defensive saves. Bubel's four defensive saves also leads the CAA, doubling the second-place total of just two. In net, Vandam leads the conference in both saves per game (7.33) and total saves with 44 on the season so far. Her 13 saves against JMU and 12 against Syracuse are the two highest in the league this season. Aljets' two goal and four-point performance against La Salle is also tied for a CAA-high this season. This weekend, Towson will look to improve from its 1-3 record at home.  

THE HOFSTRA SERIES 
Towson owns a 10-27-1 record against Hofstra. The Pride have won the last eight matchups between the two programs. Most recently, the Tigers dropped a 0-3 decision to Hofstra on Oct. 27, 2019 in Hempstead, N.Y. The last victory for Towson came in 2011 with a shutout 3-0 win. In the past, Towson has won more games against Hofstra than any other conference opponent with 10 wins. Away this season, the Pride is 1-3 while on the road. 

SCOUTING THE PRIDE 
Hofstra has earned one non-conference win and one loss against Drexel when the teams played consecutive contests in March and April. Most recently, the Pride also dropped a decision against Northeastern, 1-3. Jasmijn Verdoes leads Hofstra with three goals and four assists for 10 total points. The Pride currently sits in last place in the league with no CAA wins.  

THE DREXEL SERIES 
Drexel has the 8-26-4 all-time advantage over Towson. The Dragons have come out on top in the last 12 games against the Tigers. In 2006, the Towson got its most recent victory with a 2-1 win. The Tigers also got victory on home turf in 2002.  

SCOUTING THE DRAGONS  
Drexel currently sits in third place in the conference thanks to wins over Northeastern (5-2) and Hofstra (2-1). Eline Di Leva tops the Dragons with six goals, three assists and 15 points. Drexel leads the CAA with 13 assists this season. The Dragons are just 1-3 on the road this season.
