Softball Hosts Drexel to Close-out the Regular Season

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team will host Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) foe Drexel for a three game regular season finale inside Tiger Softball Stadium. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m. with the second game starting 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.

In between games, the Tigers will welcome back alumnae Jaclyn Mounie and Jessica Swistock and honor them. Then, after the conclusion of game two Towson will honor seniors Lindsey Toneygay and Madison Wilson.

Sunday's game is slated to begin at 1 p.m.

Pre-Season Poll
The Tigers was selected to finish third in the northern division in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) standings in the preseason poll. In the North division, Delaware collected four first-place votes for a total of 22 points, while Drexel received three first-place votes and 18 points, while the Tigers earned the final first-place vote and 16 points. Hofstra came in last in the North while JMU was first in the south division.

Newcomers
The Tigers welcome five freshman to the team this year. Ally Hickman, Naila Neely, Madyson Peters, Mackenzie Lake and Maia Wilkins all joined the black and gold during the National Signing Day period. Madeline Harris and Rylee Penrod also joined the squad during the off season.

Returners
Towson welcomes back 17 returners including Madison Wilson and Lindsey Toneygay whose senior's season got cut short due to Covid-19. Wilson earned second team All-CAA honors in 2019 and drove in a team-high 11 runs in 15 games in 2020. Lauren Ringhiser got off to a hot start a year ago, batting .378 in 14 games.

Meet the Senior 2021 Class
First we have the catcher number 32 Lindsey Toneygay from Sylvester Georgia. Toneygay spent the last three seasons in Black and Gold after transferring from Radford. The catcher has played in 46 games with 36 starts, six doubles, 163 put-outs and five home runs. Her first homer came in the 2019 season in an 8-3 victory over Youngtown State on Feb. 8 2019. She had a season-high (10) putouts versus Saint Francis on Feb. 9 2019. Toneygay had to back-to back home runs in the Howard series and the Drexel series.

Next we have first baseman number 17 Madison Wilson Hailing from Virginia Beach, Virginia, Wilson, so far she has played a total of 169 games with 167 starts. She had 550 at-bats, 37 doubles, four triples, 84 RBI's and seven home runs. She had a season-high (3) homers during her freshman campaign and led the team in put-outs (91). She finished the season with 1,099 of them.

Last Time Out
The Tigers earned a double shut-out victory over Saint Joseph's on April 21. Towson won game one 1-0 and game two 2-0.
Nicole Kidwiler went 4-for-5 on the day including a perfect 2-for-2 in game one. Linsdey Toneygay, Chloe Poulich, and Madyson Peters all had RBI singles for Towson.

Scouting the Tigers
The Tigers are led by freshman Mackenzie Lake who has a .409 batting average with seven doubles, team high five homers and 16 RBIs. Poulich leads the team in doubles with 11 and 20 RBIs.

In the circle, Melissa Abrahamian has a 3.59 ERA with a 5-6 record and 40 strikeouts.

Scouting the Dragon
Drexel split a doubleheader against Princeton this past Tuesday afternoon. The Dragons won the first game 3-1 and dropped the second 2-1.

The Dragon are led by Linda Rush who has a .515 batting average with nine doubles, one triple, 14 homers and 49 RBIs.

In the circle, Brooklyn Daly has a 2.51 ERA with an 8-1 record and 35 strikeouts.

History vs. the Dragon
Earlier in the season, Drexel took the series 2-1. The Tigers won game three 8-5 after Toneygay, Rylee Penrod and Lauren Ringhiser each hit a home run.

The Tigers are 57-36-1 all-time against the Dragon.

Tigers in the Community
The Towson University athletics department deems community service as one of its highest priorities to give back to the Greater Baltimore area.
Towson was on track to have its 8th consecutive year of over 10,000 hours of community service in 2019-20 before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down all activity.  Towson finished with 7,527 hours last year, good for third in the NCAA Teamworks Helper Helper competition.
Towson ranked #1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition.  Towson also won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.
