TOWSON, Md. – Despite missing three players expected to be in the rotation, the Towson University tennis team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) tournament and won four consecutive matches in April. The top doubles duo of
Themis Haliou and
Alexa Martinez earned second team All-CAA honors.
3) Seniors Help Turn Back The Mount on Senior Day

Schuyler Tose, who were honored before the match, helped the Towson University tennis team defeat Mount St. Mary's, 6-1, on Senior Day at the Tiger Tennis Complex on April 10
. The win was part of a four-match winning streak in April. In doubles, Martinez and
Themis Haliou won for the sixth time in eight matches, while Tose, paired with
Jessica Assenmacher, clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory. Martinez made short work of her opponent at No. 1 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0. Jacobs, who transferred from Towson after two seasons at Providence, powered her way to a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles.
2) Pospischill Battles Back To Secure Winning Point in Norfolk State Victory
After suffering an injury in a loss to William & Mary earlier in the day,
Sarah Pospischill rallied from a set down to win the deciding point in a 4-2 victory over Norfolk State in Williamsburg, Virginia on March 7. After dropping the opening set in 6-2, the sophomore rallied to win 12 of the final 15 games of the match. Pospischill led the team in singles victories during the 2021 season with 11, including an 8-4 record at No. 4 singles. She had a six-match winning streak from March 27 through April 15.
1) Haliou, Martinez Earn All-CAA Honors
Towson University's top doubles duo of
Themis Haliou and
Alexa Martinez were named to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) second team. Haliou and Martinez went 10-9 during the 2021 season, including CAA victories over Elon, Drexel and Hofstra. From March 7 through April 15, the two teamed up to win eight-of-11 matches. Head coach
Jamie Peterson used Haliou, Martinez and
Amelia Lawson in the top three singles spots all season. Martinez played 123 combined matches at Towson and has the distinction of winning matches at all six singles and all three doubles spots in the lineup. At the No. 2 singles, Haliou was undefeated in five matches, winning 60-of-67 games. The junior played 13 matches at No. 1 singles.
