FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Philip Minnehan tied for the second strongest final round of the Doc Gimmler Tournament at Bethpage Black at 66 (-4) as the Towson University men's golf team finished in ninth place over the weekend invite.
Minnehan's final round of 66 vaulted him to tie for 12
th place individually among 77 total competitors across 14 teams. The freshman Rochester native was par or better on all 18 holes of the third round, including four birdies. Overall, Minnehan finished at 212 (+2) in the tournament to tie for 12
th place.
As a team, Towson tied with Lehigh for ninth place at 865 (+25) after having its best overall round at 283 (+3), four strokes better than its opening round.
Jeremy Summerson also had a strong third round on Sunday at 69 (-1), improving five strokes from previous rounds of 74. Finishing with 217 (+7), Summerson tied for 31
st place.
Finishing second overall for Towson was
Justin Griffith, who tied for 24
th individually with a total score of 215 (+5), having the best scores from the first two rounds at even and +1 respectively.
Rounding out the Towson team was
Brad Riley, who shot a 74 (+4) on day two to finish at 221 (+11) in the invite.
Columbia won the tournament by one stroke over Harvard and Connecticut with a score of 845 (+5).
Next up for the Tigers: Towson heads to Connecticut to compete in the Hartford Hawk Invitational from Sept. 20-21.
