Williamsburg, Va.- After three rounds at the William & Mary Invitational, the black and gold finished in 12th place with a score of 912 (+48).
Odette Font Garcia (73-74-74) maintained her lead within the team to finish the invitational. She improved her spot on the leaderboard and moved up three places to be tied for 17th. She finished with a tournament score of 5-over 221. She had 11 birdies.
"Odette firing three rounds of 73-74-74 on a course she's never played before against local players was impressive to see," said Head Coach
Shannon Briggs in awe of Font Garcia. "Her ball striking, spirit, and attitude have influenced and motivated her teammates in a positive direction."
Letizia Bagnoli of Florida Atlantic finished in first place with a score of 8-under 208.
The next top finisher for the Tigers was
Julia Calomiris (78-73-73). She had the best second and third rounds on the team and finished tied for 27th with a score 8-over 224. Calomiris had 7 birdies in the tournament.
"Julia has positioned herself to gain further confidence as the semester continues," Coach Briggs proudly stated. "Her course management and mental focus really allowed her to set the tone for her last 36 holes."
With a score 17-over 233,
Faith McIlvain (77-76-80) finished tied for 55th. Her best round was the second where she shot 4-over and had one birdie on No. 5.
Not too far behind McIlvain was freshman
Rayab Lee (79-76-79) who tied for 57th. She finished the tournament with a total of 234 strokes and five birdies.
Rounding out the team,
Jordan Cornelius (82-78-83) had a total of 243 strokes with the second round being her best.
"The first two tournaments were an opportunity to see where the ladies are leading into the start of the season," shared Coach Briggs. "Collectively reviewing our stats and capitalizing on our weaker areas will be a focus throughout the fall. We are building a solid foundation with positive team cohesion and team chemistry."
The Tigers will return to the course Sept. 20-21 at the Pirate Collegiate Classic hosted by East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C. at Greenville Country Club.
