SOUTH KENT, Conn. -- Day one of the Hartford Hawk Invitational is in the books, with the Towson University men's golf program led by freshman Phil Minnehan leading the way for the Tigers.
  
The freshman from Western New York shot a +3 at the par 72 Bulls Bridge Golf Club, tied for 39th overall in the field of 113 individual golfers.

Towson is tied for 12th out of 18 teams at the Invitational, combining for a 307 through one round. Initially scheduled for 36 holes on Monday, the second round was suspended for the evening due to darkness. The second round continues on Tuesday, followed by the third and final round on the 6,992-yard course.

"Today was tough," said head coach Mike Larkin. "I felt the guys needed to do a little better job on being committed to hitting their spots. The greens were great; fast and firm but it made it tough to score if you got out of position."

Close behind Minnehan was Towson's Jeremy Summerson, who carded a 76 for the opening round, tying for 52nd in the standings. Brad Riley and Justin Griffith tied for third among the Tigers and 76th overall, each shooting a 78 on Monday. Julian Gonzalez rounded out the Towson scorers with an 81, tying for 94th.

UCF leads the team standings with a 284 combined score, led by Clement Charmasson and Johnny Travale, who each shot a 69. UConn is second with a 288, followed by Seton Hall (289) and Sacred Heart (289) in fourth, thanks to a 68 from Marcus Lim, who is tied for first with Nicholas Estrada from UCF playing as an individual.
