TOWSON, Md. — The Towson University field hockey team will host the last nonconference games for a bit this weekend. The team will welcome Wagner on Friday, Sept. 24 at 3 p.m. and LIU on Sunday, Sept. 26 at 1 p.m.
The Tigers will also host American University and LIU for a neutral site game on Sept. 24 at noon.

Last Time Out
Towson earned its first win of the season last weekend, defeating La Salle 1-0 on Friday evening. Paige Reese scored in the beginning of the second quarter thanks to an assist from Dom Nelson. The Tigers took four total shots and put two on goal in the 60-minute span. The Towson defense kept up its high level of play, stopping 10 penalty corners. Kasey Bubel and Madisyn Howard also earned one defensive save each and goalkeeper Lena Vandam was credited with five stops.
The black & gold then fell to Penn, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers had several opportunities to find the equalizer but could not convert. Vandam registered nine saves on 14 shots faced and came off her line often, breaking up attacks and batting away loose balls in her circle.
In The Rankings
Bubel currently leads the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and ranks third in the NCAA with five defensive saves. Reese sits in third in the league with three defensive stops and Beira Ho is in sixth with two saves.
Vandam currently leads the conference with an outstanding 80 total saves. The graduate student also leads both the CAA and is second in the nation with 11.43 saves per game. Vandam is also the only goalkeeper in the CAA to average double-digit saves.
Where Are You From?
The Tigers' roster boasts representation from six different states and two countries. While 15 student-athletes call Maryland home, Pennsylvania (5), Virginia (5), New Jersey (3), Delaware (1) and New York (1) are also represented. Vandam (Belgium) and freshman Cate Cook (South Africa) bring some international flair to the team.
Scouting the Seahawks
Wagner is coming off its first victory of the season after defeating Yale, 3-2. Prior to that, the Seahawks had dropped five straight contests including a 0-1 loss to La Salle.
Julia Pastorino leads the team with two goals and 19 shots. Liselotte Koop has also plays a key role for the Seahawks, collecting four assists, one goal and three shots on net so far this season. Both student-athletes have also earned one defensive save each.
Daisey Ruhle has played the majority of the fall in net for Wagner, compiling 46 saves on 86 shots faced.
Looking into the Sharks
With a 2-4 record on the season so far, LIU has mounted wins against both Georgetown (2-1) and Lehigh (1-0 OT).
Sammy Bell leads her squad with four goals, 19 total shots and 10 on goal. Goalkeeper Rachel Vellis has totaled 27 saves on 65 shots faced for a .659 stop percentage.
