Towson Swimming and Diving Hosts Memorable Alumni Weekend

TOWSON, Md. - The annual Towson Swimming and Diving alumni swim meet and banquet took place Sept 17-18, 2021. Over the weekend, former swimmers and the family of current student-athletes were invited to participate in several engagement events throughout the weekend. Most notably, championship rings were awarded to the 2020-21 Towson Men's Swimming and Diving program after capturing the program's first ever CAA Championship.

Over 70 alumni across four decades and a total of 140 guests attended the event.

"Being able to present the rings to our men's 2021 CCA champions in front of our alumni base meant a lot to our coaches and team members," mentioned head coach Jake Shrum.

Additionally, deceased coach Ray Riordon was honored at the banquet. He passed away on April 23, 2021 at the age of 87. Riordon founded the TU swim team and coached the team for 30 years.

"Riordon embodied all the qualities that you'd want successful student-athletes to have and instilled those in his student-athletes," Shrum continues. "It was a no-brainer to honor his legacy."

Riordon was twice named TU coach of the year and was inducted into the TU athletics hall of fame in 2002. The alumni weekend dedicated to him raised almost $14,000 for the swim program.

Towson's swimming and diving teams each kick off their seasons on Oct. 9. The women's team leads off with meet against James Madison while the men's side holds an intersquad meet. Diving is set for 10 a.m. start at Burdick Pool.
