GREENVILLE, NC – The Towson University women's golf team has finished the Pirate Collegiate Classic in tenth place after 54 holes on the Greenville Country Club course. The Tigers managed to improve by six strokes during the last round, earning a final score of 932 (+68).
East Carolina University, the host of the tournament, won by one stroke with a score of 880 (+16). Gabriella Gilrowski of Georgetown placed first in the field of 63 players after rounds of 68-71-68. She finished at 9-under.
Madison Barber (77-72-74) remained the leader for the Tigers, moving up one spot to finish the event tied for 16
th. Barber had a strong final round, adding two more birdies to her scorecard. The senior also made her mark on the leader board for number of pars for the tournament, earning a final total of 33.
Faith McIlvain (75-81-76) bounced back from her second round performance by five strokes, moving up two spots to finish the tournament tied for 38
th place. The junior notched three birdies during the final 18 holes.
Odette Font Garcia (82-77-76) earned her best score for the final round, shooting 4-over to conclude the tournament. The sophomore earned a spot on the leaderboard for number of birdies for the event, earning seven over the course of 54 holes.
Rayab Lee (82-81-79) improved by two more strokes for the final round, notching three more birdies. Lee also appeared on the leaderboard for amount of birdies, earning seven to tie with Font Garcia.
Junior
Isabella Portokalis (86-81-79) rounded out the team. The junior improved by two strokes and notched a birdie.
"The ladies each had individual highlights this fall," head coach Shannon Briggs said. "I look forward to continuing to dial the details as we prepare for our conference campaign in the spring. Proud of the team's performance this season, building a base to improve from."
The Tigers will spend the next few months preparing for their 2023 spring campaign.
