TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's lacrosse team has released its 2023 schedule. The Tigers are coming off a season where Towson went 9-8 overall and had a 5-1 CAA record. The Tigers reached the CAA finals after defeating Delaware 12-8 in the semifinals but fell in overtime to Drexel 11-10 in the CAA championship.
The 2023 schedule will consist of 16 regular season games, with seven occurring at Tiger Field and nine on the road. The CAA welcomed Monmouth and Stony Brook this year to the conference. Stony Brook is the reigning America East champion, while Monmouth was the regular season co-champion of the MAAC.
Game times will be released at a later date and all games at Tiger Field will be free to all who attend.
"We enter a new era in the CAA with some exciting program additions, which I'm really looking forward to," said head coach
Sonia LaMonica. "I know that our strong out-of-conference slate will prepare us well. As we hold our team culture in the forefront of everything we do, I know great things are ahead for our program."
The Tigers will start their campaign in Emmitsburg, Md. on Saturday, Feb. 11th against Mount St. Mary's. Towson is 6-1 all-time against the Mountaineers and undefeated against them in Emmitsburg holding a 3-0 record at Waldron Family Stadium.
Towson will travel to the nation's capital to square off against Georgetown on Wednesday, Feb. 15th. The Tigers have won seven of the last eight meetings against the Hoyas.
A week later, Towson will have their home opener at Tiger Field on Wednesday, Feb. 22nd against rival Loyola. These programs have played each other every year since Towson started women's lacrosse.
The Tigers will wrap up February with Arizona State on Sunday, Feb. 26th at Tiger Field. This will be the first meeting all-time between these two programs.
Towson will travel to Philadelphia to go against Saint Joseph's on Wednesday, March 1st. The Tigers have played the Hawks for five years straight and have a 4-1 record against them, including a 20-8 win last year at Tiger Field when Lindsay Clarke totaled a season-high five points.
The Tigers will welcome Central Michigan for the first time in program history on Saturday, March 4th. The Chippewas are the defending MAC Champions after winning the title in their first season in the conference.
Towson will play Penn State on Tuesday, March 14th in University Park, Pa. The Tigers last defeated the Nittany Lions in 2018, 14-13, when
Natalie Sulmonte scored three goals and tallied three assists.
The Tigers will open CAA play in a rematch of the 2022 CAA Championship against Drexel at Tiger Field on Saturday, March 18th. Towson has a 37-7 overall record against the Dragons. Men's lacrosse will also play Drexel on March 18th at Johnny Unitas Stadium.
Three days later, Towson squares off against Vanderbilt on Tuesday, March 21st in Nashville. This meeting will be the first meeting in Nashville since 2000.
Towson will resume conference play with a trip to Hempstead, N.Y. to face off against Hofstra on Saturday, March 25th. The Tigers defeated the Pride 11-10 in overtime last year on Gabby Garrett's winner.
The Tigers will continue CAA play with a matchup against Elon. The match will take place on Saturday, April 1st at Tiger Field. Towson is 9-1 against the Phoenix and undefeated against them in regular season play.
Towson will travel to Williamsburg, Va., to go against William & Mary on Saturday, April 8th. The Tigers hold a 13-game winning streak against the Tribe.
The Tigers will host CAA newcomers Monmouth on Saturday, April 15th at Tiger Field. Towson is a perfect 5-0 against the Hawks all-time. Men's lacrosse will play on the same day in Towson against Hampton.
Towson will wrap up their non-conference schedule on the road against familiar foe Johns Hopkins on April 18th. Last year, these teams had an overtime thriller at Tiger Field where the Blue Jays won 11-10.
The Tigers welcome CAA newcomers Stony Brook to Tiger Field on Saturday, April 22nd. Last year, the Seawolves hosted the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament before losing in the NCAA quarterfinals to #1 North Carolina.
Towson closes out the regular season on the road against rival Delaware on Saturday, April 29th. The Tigers currently have a six-game-winning streak versus the Blue Hens.
Towson will host the CAA Tournament starting on Friday, May 5th with the semi-finals and the championship on Sunday, May 7th.
