Gymnastics Opens Busy February Wednesday Night

First Rotation
After splitting the first month between home and the road, the Tigers return to SECU Arena for four meets in the month of February, leading off Wednesday night with familiar foes, George Washington and William & Mary.

In The Road to Nationals Rankings
Towson is currently 39th in the Week 4 Road to Nationals standings, averaging 194.775 points per meet after a big 195.975 at UNC. George Washington ranks 43rd with a 194.583 average while William & Mary are 62nd (190.558).

The Home Sweet Home Tigers
Towson returns to SECU Arena after a two-week absence with a pair of fruitful trips to North Carolina where the Tigers continued to up their season-best, including a 195.975 at UNC.

Lauren Bolen leads the Tiger vaulting efforts, averaging a 9.781 this season. Camille Vitoff (9.775), Mia Davis (9.717) and Elise Tisler (9.700) all hit for 9.700 or better on average.

Towson's bars squad, ranked 35th nationally this week, is paced by Steph Macasu (9.838) who returned to the lineup last weekend at UNC. Grace Vaillancourt (9.794) has been a solid contributor on bars, as have rookie Clara Hong (9.781) and Lauren Keener (9.775).

The Tiger beam team is currently 33rd in Road To Nationals average, paced by a 9.875 from Cassidy Stuart, who has competed once on beam in the home meet. Vaillancourt (9.812) and Macasu (9.800) are also north of 9.800 averages.

On the floor, five Tigers average 9.700 or better: Amy Stewart (9.781), Hong (9.775), Paige Casper (9.758) and Bolen (9.725).

Hong is the lone Tiger to complete and all-around competition this year, scoring a 38.950.

Scouting the Colonials
George Washington will meet William & Mary for a second-straight weekend after a quad-meet at N.C. State last weekend. The Colonials finished third out of the four with 193.675 points.

Deja Chambliss (9.850) and Kendall Whitman (9.800) lead GW on vault and are the only Colonials about a 9.800 on average.

Three gymnasts average better than a 9.700 on bars: Chambliss (9.742), Olivia Raymond (9.733) and Rachel Katz (9.717).

On beam, Anneliese Silverman (9.750) and Sarah Zois (9.725) post better than a 9.700 on average with Simone Banen (9.683) close behind.

Chambliss also leads GW on floor with a 9.867 average, just ahead of Olivia Zona at 9.833.

Chambliss is the lone athlete to finish an all-around this year, averaging a 39.100 with a high of 39.225.

Scouting the Tribe
Wednesday will be the Tribe's second trip to SECU Arena this year. William & Mary competed alongside Towson, West Chester and West Virginia in the Tigers' home opener on Jan. 14.

Caroline Blatchford (9.642) leads on vault, followed closely by Catherine Bare (9.633).

Blatchford is the top average on bars for William & Mary, posting a 9.658 with Sarah Wozniak (9.608) in second.

Again, Blatchford leads the way on beam with a 9.675 average, narrowly edging Keaghan Schafer's 9.667 average.

Schafer is the top average in the floor exercise, notching a 9.733 on average with Chloe Campbell and Bare tied for second with 9.692 averages.

Blatchford and Sarah Kuper have each completed at least one all-around sessions, with the former averaging a 38.567 while the latter averages a 36.725.

Another Week, Another Improvement. Again.
Another week, another improvement in the team score for the Tigers as Towson returns to SECU Arena following a successful return to North Carolina.

Last weekend, the Tigers posted a season-best 195.975 while competing against host UNC and Pittsburgh, increasing its season total by a full point. Towson's previous season best was a 194.975 set the previous weekend at N.C. State in a dual meet.

Towson opened the season with an even 194.000 at UNH before the Tigers' home-opening score of 194.150 in a quad meet with West Virginia, West Chester and William & Mary.

Towson's top mark to date, the 195.975, is the program's only top-20 score to be recorded in the month of January.

Home Sweet Home
It was a long set of road trips for the Tigers to begin the 2022 campaign, first with a trip Durham, New Hampshire for a dual meet against EAGL foe University of New Hampshire, followed by back-to-back weekends at N.C. State and University of North Carolina in Raleigh and Chapel Hill, respectively.

Now it's the Tigers turn to do work at home as Towson is home for nearly the entire month of February, kicking off Wednesday with a tri-meet against George Washington and William & Mary, followed by a quad-meet on Friday with reigning EAGL champion Temple, LIU and Eastern Michigan. Towson rounds out this month's home slate with a tussle against the Bears of Ursinus College on Feb. 19.

After that, Towson heads west for back-to-back meets at Utah State on Friday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. ET and Sunday Feb. 27. at 3 p.m. ET.

You Look Very Familiar...
Towson and William & Mary meet for a second time in the first half of the season as the Tigers hosted the Tribe in Towson's home opener on Jan. 14.

Wednesday's meet will be the first of two meetings between Towson and George Washington. The pair of EAGL rivals meet again in Towson's regular season finale on March 11 before one last clash before NCAA action during this year's EAGL Championships, hosted at GW's Charles E. Smith Center on Saturday, March 19.

William & Mary, George Washington and Utah State are the three opponents that adorn the Tigers' 2022 schedule multiple times during the regular season.

Towson and William & Mary entered SECU Arena for the Tigers' home opener on January 14 for a quad meet. The Tigers came out on top with a 194.150, followed by West Virginia (194.000), West Chester (192.600) and William & Mary (191.075). Camille Vitoff and Lauren Bolen tied for third on vault with a pair of 9.775s before sweeping the bars behind Clara Hong (9.825), and two 9.800s from Grace Vaillancourt and Lauren Keener. Cassidy Stuart finished atop the beam standings with a 9.875 while Hong (9.800) had the Tigers' top score on floor to finish fifth. Hong was second in the all-around with a 38.950, her first all-around effort at the college level.

It was a close battle the last time the Tigers and Colonials clashed in the regular season. GW won the dual 195.675 against Towson's 195.050. Camille Vitoff and Lauren Bolen tied for first with two 9.875s while Tess Zientek won the bars outright with a 9.875. Likewise, Emerson Hurst landed a 9.975 on the beam, collecting a 10.0 from one judge and a 9.95 from the second judge. Bolen tied for second with a 9.875. Amy Stewart and Nikki Borkowski also tied for first on the floor, each Tiger scoring a 9.825. Bolen was the only competitor at the dual to compete in all four rotations, scoring a 39.200 in the all-around.

Chapel Hill: The New San Francisco
- Like the Gold Rush in the 1800s, Towson became 49ers in Chapel Hill.
- For just the fourth time in program history, the Tigers dropped in at least three 49.000s or better during the tri-meet at UNC.
- Towson won the vault with a 49.100, the only team above 49.000.
- The Tigers also landed a 49.050 on bars, again the only team at that mark.
- Towson hit a 49.150 on beam, edging out host UNC's 49.125.

Week Four Standings
- In the Week Three Road to Nationals Standings, Towson is ranked 39th behind a 194.775 scoring average.
- Towson is 48th in vault with a 48.663 average, 35th on bars (48.669), 33rd on beam (48.750) for a four-spot jump, and 42nd on the floor (48.694).
- The Tigers are sixth in the Southeast region in scoring average, eighth on vault, sixth on bars, fourth on beam, seventh on floor.

Wealth of Experience...
- Nearly every Tiger that competed for the Black and Gold at the 2021 NCAA Regional Meet in Morgantown, West Virginia is back this season.
- Five of six competitors from vault: Jenna Weitz, Nikki Borkowski, Amy Stewart, Lauren Bolen, Camille Vitoff.
- Four of five bar scorers: Lauren Bolen, Camille Vitoff, Amy Stewart, Grace Vaillancourt.
- Five of six competitors from beam: Lauren Bolen, Camille Vitoff, Jenna Weitz, Emerson Hurst, Cassidy Stuart
- All six competitors from floor: Lauren Bolen, Jenna Weitz, Camille Vitoff, Nikki Borkowski, Amy Stewart, Paige Casper.
- Both All-Around scorers: Lauren Bolen, Camille Vitoff.
- Bolen finished fourth in all-around (39.00) while Vitoff took fifth (38.900)

...But Starting a Youth Movement
- Towson had a lot of youth in its lineup last weekend at UNH.
- Mia Davis and Elise Tisler made their collegiate debut in vault, Clara Hong, Lauren Keener and Steph Macasu all appeared in a college meet for the first time on bars and beam.
- Hong also made her first college appearance on the floor and was a vault shy of going all-around.

Towson Picked Second in EAGL Poll
- Towson was picked to finish second in a preseason poll of the EAGL Head Coaches.
- The Tigers garnered 44 points, trailing only N.C. State's 58 points with two first-place votes.
- Reigning champion Temple and North Carolina tied for third with 43 points.
- George Washington (35), New Hampshire (30) and Pittsburgh ranked fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, each picking up one first place vote. LIU was picked eighth with eight points
- The second-place selection was the best preseason placement for the Tigers in EAGL history.

Not Shying Away
- Towson won't be shying away from anyone this season.
- In addition to landing in the receiving votes column of the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Preseason Poll, the 2022 Tigers will take on 12 opponents mentioned in the preseason rankings.
- NC State (21), Utah State (26), West Virginia (30), Maryland (31), North Carolina (35), Temple (RV), Eastern Michigan (RV), George Washington (RV), New Hampshire (RV), Pittsburgh (RV), Penn (RV), and LIU (RV)
