Carminati Leads Women’s Swimming and Diving in Day Three

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – Behind a second-place finish from senior distance swimmer Karlee Carminati, the Towson University women's swimming and diving program finished day three of the 2022 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Swimming and Diving Championships.

Carminati took silver in the women's 400-yard individual medley, holding off a late charge and timing a 4-minute, 23.54 second effort to reach the podium's second step. 

Overall, the women's team dipped to fourth in the standings with 353.50 points. William & Mary leads after three days with 438.50 points, followed by UNCW (419) and Drexel (358). Delaware is fifth with 287 points while Northeastern is sixth with 273.

How it Happened
  • It was a swimming-only day for the women's programs. Finals were led by the 100-yard butterfly. Hailey Ritter and Ava Enriquez finished fifth and sixth, respectively, clocking 55.23 and 55.73.
  • Seeded second entering the 400-yard IM, Carminati made good on the seeding, improving on her time by nearly two seconds. Her time of 4:23.54 was just four seconds from first place, captured by UNCW's Kathryn Knorr.
  • Suzannah Mills tied for sixth-place in the 400-yard IM, logging a 4:26.50, equal with William & Mary's Kim Jogis.
  • Meagan Clark was the lone Towson swimmer in the 200-yard freestyle A Finals, finishing seventh in 1:50.96.
  • Katie Nunez and Tiffany Matulis locked in fifth- and sixth-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke. The former touched in 1:03.07 while the latter was done in 1:03.35.
  • Freshman Tink Tompkins finished second in the B Finals with a 1:04.62.
  • In the 100-yard backstroke, Parker Schulz finished seventh with a 56.58, just a quarter-second from sixth overall. Julia Ali was third in the B Finals with a time of 57.21.
  • Towson rounded out its day with a podium finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Maddie Mince, Ritter, Nunez and Schulz combined for a 1:33.01, improving on the group's seed time by two-tenths of a second.
Up Next for Towson
  • The Tigers will look to pull back to the field in the final day of action at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
  • Saturday's program begins at 10 a.m. for preliminaries, followed by finals at 6 p.m.
  • The final day of action will feature the 200-yard backstroke, the 100-yard freestyle, the 200-yard breaststroke, the 200-yard butterfly and the 1,650-yard freestyle.
  • Additionally, women's diving concludes with the 1-meter competition, beginning at 12:30 p.m. with consolations. Diving finals will proceed the 400-yard freestyle relay events, the final swim of this year's championship.
