First Rotation
It's Championship Season for the Towson University women's gymnastics team as the Tigers make the quick trip to Washington, D.C. for the 2022 EAGL Championships, hosted by George Washington University. The Tigers enter the meet as the number two-seed and will compete in Session II at 6 p.m.
In The Road to Nationals Rankings
Two EAGL teams are in the Road to Nationals NQS top 30, including Towson, which checks in at No. 30 with an NQS of 196.245. N.C. State is ranked 28th with an NQS of 196.330.
The Ready to Go Tigers
After a quick stop off at SECU Arena for a quad meet last week, the Tigers are on the road the rest of the way as they prepare for the EAGL Championships in nearby Washington, D.C.
Towson's vault group, currently ranked 31st in the country, is led by All-EAGL First Teamers Lauren Bolen (9.810) and Camille Vitoff (9.802). Second team picks Elise Tisler (9.765) and Mia Davis (9.764), alongside Nikki Borkowski (9.727), all average a 9.700 or better.
Reigning Rookie of the Week Lauren Keener (9.792) leads Towson on bars with First Team All-EAGL honoree Steph Macasu (9.785) close behind. Sarah Girot (9.779) and All-EAGL Second Teamer Clara Hong (9.779) are tied for third.
Towson's Beam Team is currently ranked 25th in the country, paced by Second Team EAGL picks Hong (9.827) and Emerson Hurst (9.804). Macasu is third on the team with an even 9.800 average. First Team All-EAGLer Jenna Weitz averages 9.788.
All-EAGL First Teamer Amy Stewart (9.833) leads Towson on floor. A Second Team pick, Hong (9.798) is just shy of a 9.800 average. Bolen (9.758) and Grace Vaillancourt (9.758) follow
Last Time at EAGL Championships
Rounding out one of the most unique years in collegiate gymnastics, the Tigers finished third overall in the eight-team field at the 2021 EAGL Championships, hosted by University of Pittsburgh on March 20, 2021.
The Tigers racked 195.875 points, a program record at EAGL Championships. Towson scored 48.725 on vault, 48.875 on bars, 49.050 on beam and 49.225 on floor. Temple stunned the league with a winning score of 196.500, followed by N.C. State in second with 196.050 points.
Towson's third-place finish was the program's best at EAGL Championships since also taking third in 2001, the Tigers' last regional berth before last year's team. Towson's best finish at EAGL Championships was a second-place finish in the inaugural season, 1996.
The Tigers saw Emerson Hurst tie for first on the beam, scoring a 9.900 to pull even with Elizabeth Culton (UNC) and Hallie Thompson (UNC). Camille Vitoff tied for second in the all-around competition, scoring 39.200. Culton won the all-around while Vitoff tied with Emily Shepard (N.C. State).
Amy Stewart just missed the podium on the floor, entering a four-way tie for fourth place with 9.875 points. A three-way tie at first place was composed of three 9.900s.
Home is Where the Dubs Are
- SECU Arena has been home to a lot of wins during the 2021-22 calendar year.
- The Tiger gymnastics team is currently 12-2 at SECU Arena this season, going 2-1 in head-to-head matchups last Friday, topping George Washington and Southern Connecticut, but falling to No. 28 Maryland.
- Towson volleyball went 17-1 at SECU Arena in the fall while both men's and women's basketball teams went 12-2 at home.
- Even the Baltimore Blast (MASL indoor soccer) are 7-2 at SECU Arena this season as of March 9.
- Combined, Towson's teams are 53-7 at SECU Arena this academic year.
- Women's basketball hosts Old Dominion Friday night for the WNIT at SECU Arena for potentially the last home event at the 10-year old building this academic year.
Senior Day
- Last Friday, the Tigers honored its three seniors: Nikki Borkowski, Emerson Hurst and Jaz Kauffman.
- The group came to Towson together in the summer of 2018 and competed together since the 2019 season.
- The trio has seen, and been a part of, Towson's growth and improvement over the last four seasons; Towson finished 2019 ranked 58th in the NQS standings before reaching the NCAA Regional last season, ending a two-decade drought for the postseason.
- In their rookie season, the Tigers finished sixth in the EAGL standings with a 193.310 NQS and are now second in the week 10 standings for 2022 with an NQS of 196.245, carrying 49.000 in all four rotations of the NQS rankings.
ALL The 196.000s
- This season, the Tigers scored a program-best 196.000 or better in six of the 12 meets.
- Last season, the Tigers scored 196.000 or better twice, once at home against GW and once on the road against LIU and UNH.
- Prior to the 2021 campaign, Towson had not scored a single 196.000 since March 18, 2018 during a five-team meet at home.
Moving the Base to 49.000
- This season, Towson scored a 49.000 or better across all four events a whopping 24 times.
- During three meets this season, the Tigers racked 49.000s in all four rotations.

- The February 9 meet was the first time in program history the Tigers racked four 49.000s in the same meet.
In-State Battle
- Last Friday's meet featured a matchup between the Tigers against the only-other gymnastics program in the state, Maryland.
- The Tigers and Terps met for the first time since the 2020 season, Towson's final gymnastics event before the COVID-19 Pandemic shuttered the final weeks of that season.
- Since 1973-74, Towson and Maryland have now met 92 times and have nearly split the results; the Tigers have won 44 times, the Terps 47. There is one tie in the series.
- No. 28 Maryland edged No. 29 Towson 197.150-196.625. It took the second-best score in program history for the Terps to top the Tigers.
- Two years prior, Towson collected its first win over Maryland since a March 16, 2007 win in the Towson Center by a 194.500-193.150 count.
Next Stop: Washington, D.C.
- The Tigers make the quick trip to other side of the DMV for the 2022 EAGL Championships.
- Saturday will be the Tigers' shortest road trip of the 2022 season.
- George Washington will host this year's championships with split sessions in the early afternoon and in the evening.
- This year's EAGL Championships will be hosted at the Charles E. Smith Center.
- The Tigers will enter the weekend as the number two seed for the EAGL Championships, competing in Session II with No. 1 N.C. State, No. 3 North Carolina and fourth-seeded George Washington.
Tigers Go West
- Towson made one of its longest road trips in recent memory in mid-February, heading the furthest-west the Tigers have been since at least 2013.
- Since that season, the furthest west Towson has been was a 2015 meet at Texas Woman's College, located in Denton, Texas.
- Towson had not been west of Pittsburgh since the 2019 season when the Tigers made the trek to Kalamazoo, Michigan.

The Friendly Confines of SECU Arena
- Towson has been nearly untouchable at home this season, sporting a 12-2 record at SECU Arena.
- Most recently, Towson finished second in a home quad, tying the fourth-best score in program history with a 196.625.
- The 12 wins at home this season are a program-best under head coach Jay Ramirez, besting the previous mark of 5-1 in his rookie season at the helm in 2020.
- The last time the Tigers won at least 10 meets at home was during the 2018 season as the Tigers went 11-7 at SECU Arena.
- Towson's 12-2 mark at home this season is a program record for single season wins at SECU Arena, into which the Tigers moved into full time in January 2014.
- Under Ramirez, the Tigers are 20-9 at SECU Arena since the 2020 campaign.
Super Bowl Sunday
The February 13 dual meet with Penn was be the sixth time since the 2000 season that the Tigers competed on Super Bowl Sunday and just the second time in that span the Tigers hosted an event on the same day as the Super Bowl.
Since 2000, the Tigers are 8-5 on Super Bowl Sunday, most recently with a 195.950-195.375 win over Penn as the Los Angeles Rams went on to win Super Bowl LVI.

Week Ten Standings: On to the Postseason
- In the Week Ten Road to Nationals NQS Standings, Towson was tied for 30th with a 196.245 National Qualifying Score. Towson was ranked 29th in the RTN NQS last week, despite upping its NQS by a full tenth of a point this week.
- Towson is 31st in vault with a 49.025 NQS, 36th on bars (49.050), 5th on beam (49.165) and 41st on the floor (49.115).
- The Tigers are fifth in the South East region in NQS behind Florida (198.050), Maryland (196.665), Georgia (196.575), and N.C. State (196.330).
EAGL Rooke of the Week: Lauren Keener (March 16, 2021)
- Freshman Lauren Keener was named EAGL Co-Rookie of the Week on March 14.
- Keener hit a career-best 9.900 on Friday, finishing third in a deep field at the quad-meet with No. 28 Maryland, George Washington and Southern Connecticut.
- On beam, Keener scored a 9.875, tying for first place while matching a career-best beam score.
- It was her first career first-place finish in any event as a Tiger.
