Men’s Golf Sits Sixth After Day One of Carpetbagger Classic

URBANA, Md. – Through 18 holes at Worthington Manor Golf Club, the Towson University men's golf team sits in sixth-place in a 14-team field at the Carpetbagger Classic, hosted by Binghamton University in Urbana, Maryland.

Towson combined to shoot a 302, scoring 14 over par on the first day of the event. Rhode Island leads the field at 291, sitting three-over par. Robert Morris and Bryant are second and third at 294 and 296, respectively.

How it Happened

Freshman Brad Freyberger continued his excellent play this week, carding an even-par 72 at the 7,034 yard course. He is just three strokes off the lead and tied for fourth.
Julian Gonzalez is second for the Tigers and tied for 22nd after a 75 in the first round, going three-over par.
Justin Griffith is tied for 33rd at 77 while Jeremy Summerson and Phil Minnehan are tied for 38th with a pair of 78s.
Towson had three players entered as individuals: Vinny Fanucchi and Brad Riley, who made his spring 2022 debut,are tied for 46th at 79 (+7), while Branden Nguyen is tied for 55th at 80.

The Tigers conclude the 2022 Carperbagger Classic on Sunday morning, back at Worthington Manor Golf Club.
Towson is idle after that until Monday, March 28 for the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate down in Williamsburg, Virginia.
