WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – After a full round of 18 holes at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate, the Towson University men's golf team is tied for third out of 15 teams. The event is hosted by William & Mary at Golden Horseshoe - Gold Course, a Par 71, 6,817 yard course.
The second round of action was suspended due to a lack of light. Towson's players had at least three holes to finish when play resumes Tuesday Monday.
How it Happened
- Through the first round, Justin Griffith led the Tigers with an even scorecard at 71. Teeing off on the eighth hole, Griffith carded three birdies on 10, 13 and 15, but had double bogies on 15 and 18, paired with a bogey on 11.
- Griffith recovered on holes 2 and 6 with birdies to finish the first round at even par (71), tying for fifth after 18 holes.
- Phil Minnehan was two over on the first round, tying for 13th overall. The freshman led off on the 10th hole, putting up two bogies on the back nine before logging three birdies on the front nine of the course. Minnehan carded a double on his final hole of round one to finish two over.
- Back in the lineup, Brad Riley was tied for 17th after 18 holes with a three-over 74. Riley finished even on the course's front nine with three birdies and three bogies, including a birdie on his final hole of the opening round.
- Another rookie, Brad Freyberger, was tied for 32nd and Towson's fourth scorer in the first round. Freyberger finished five over par in the first round, but notched three birdies in his first four holes after teeing off on the sixth hole.
