Men’s Golf Tied for Tenth After Day One

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. – After all five players got through at least 29 holes of golf, the Towson University men's golf team tied for 10th at the Donald Ross Collegiate Classic, hosted by George Mason University at Mid Pines Golf Club.

Play was suspended midway through the second round due to darkness. Towson is +23 on the Par 72, 6,633 yard course. Through the first round, Towson combined for a 299.

Through the full first round, Brad Freyberger led the Tigers with a one-over 73, including a -1 on the front nine which included an eagle on the 537 yard Par 5 sixth. Freyberger slipped on the back nine with three bogies, but added a birdie in the mix to finish +1 in the first round.

In the opening 18 holes, Justin Griffith finished two over par. Griffith's score was bolstered by an eagle on the 542-yard Par 5 five 15th hole, the longest hole at Mid Pines and one of two Par 5s on the back nine.

Phillip Minnehan was also +2 through the first round, carding an even 36 on the front nine. The freshman posted just three bogies all day, aided by a birdie on the Par 5, 484 yard fifth hole.

Julian Gonzalez finished with a +6 78 through the opening round while Jeremey Summerson notched a six-over 78 in the first 18 holes. 

Round two concludes Tuesday morning as players pick up where they left off at 8 a.m., followed immediately by the third and final round in North Carolina. Action can be followed on GolfStat.com.
