Men’s Golf Sits Fifth After Round One in Lehigh Valley

HELLERTOWN, Pa. – After a 72-hole afternoon, the Towson University men's golf team is currently fifth in the 20-team standings. The Tigers fired a combined 299 on the day, just seven strokes back from the leader at The Steel Club in the Lehigh Valley.

Towson is 11 over par as a team, seven strokes adrift from Iona's 292 (+4). Rhode Island is second at 293 (+5) while Bucknell (296, +8) and host Lafayette (297, +9) are currently ahead of Towson.

How it Happened
  • Individually, Justin Griffith leads Towson, shooting a -1 on the Par 72 course. He is currently tied for fourth and is two strokes back from Iona's Justin Burkhamer and Bucknell's Jackson Bussell atop the leaderboard.
  • Brad Riley was second in for the Tigers, carding an even-par 72 on the 6,655 yard course. Riley is currently in a three-way tie for seventh place after 18 holes.
  • Freshman Brad Freyberger ranked third for the Tigers, tying for 51st after day one with a +5 77 on the day. 
  • Phil Minnehan and Julian Gonzalez are tied for 72nd overall, sitting at +7, each scoring a 79 for the day.

  • The Tigers return to The Steel Club on Monday morning to kick off the second round.
