BEAUFORT, S.C. – A freshman remains at the top of the scoring for Towson University as
Brad Freyberger paced the Tigers at day two of the 2022 CAA Men's Golf Championship on Monday afternoon.
Freyberger posted a one-under 71 on Tuesday at the Par 72 Cotton Dike Course, a 6,787 yard track at Dataw Island Club. The rookie rolled in an eagle put on the Par 5, 493 yard third hole to get to one under on the round.
How it Happened
- Freyberger's 71 led the Tigers on day two, moving the freshman into a tie for 16th place overall combined with his 74 from Sunday for a 145 across two rounds. The Asburn, Virginia product went one under on the front nine, leading with a bogey but added the eagle on three to get under.
- Across the final four holes, Freyberger scored a pair of bogies, but countered with a par of birdies to finish the day one under.
- Brad Riley sits second for the Tigers at 147 and is tied for 22nd in the field. Riley had a bogey-free front nine, adding a birdie on the Par 4 first hole. Riley got to -2 with a birdie on 13, but a bogey and a triple on 14 and 17, respectively, moved him back to two over. Riley finished the day with a birdie on 18 to finish with a one-over 73.
- Phil Minnehan is currently 32nd overall after two rounds, carding an 80 on Monday. He scored birdies on 14 and 18 but struggled on the back nine with five bogies.
- Justin Griffith, currently tied for 33rd, added his second 76 at the CAA Championships. Griffith went -2 on the front nine with two birdies and was bogey-free at the turn. Griffith posted five bogies on the back nine alongside a birdie and a double.
- Jeremy Summerson improved from his first round, scoring a three-over 75 in round two. Summerson finished the day with a birdie on 18 as well.
- Towson finished the day strong as all five Towson players hit par or better on the 18th hole of the afternoon.

- Riley has the third-most par scores through the first two rounds, hitting the number 25 times, just three back from the par leader.
Quotables - Head Coach Mike Larkin
This was truly one of those days where we were one or two swings a man away from shooting one or two under par as a team.
Brad (Riley) played a really solid round, but makes an untimely triple on seventeen, he makes par there and he shoots two under. (Justin) Griffith was in the same boat, made double on seventeen. One or two swings away there.
We're looking at the positives. The other thing there is what better shape we are in now than we were at this same tournament last year. I think at the end of the day, last year we were 40 over par. To shoot two rounds at seven over this year … we know we're just a couple swings away from being under par in a team round.
Very steady day for Bergy (Brad Freyberger). Obviously he was a little disappointed at bogeying number one, a driveable par four, but bounces back and made the eagle on three. I was there to see him birdie sixteen, a 200-yard par three over water, he put it in there and made a great putt.
