Lewisburg, Pa. – The Towson University track and field team had quite a successful Saturday, placing second out of eight universities at the Gulden Invitational after earning 109 points.
This performance was supported by twelve top-five finishes, including five first place finishes from
Cristal Cuervo, Leaann Redlo, Emmanuel Mevo and
Fatimah Owens.
After her two first place finishes on the long and triple jump, Emmanuel Mevo was awarded field event MVP.
How it Happened - Track
- Leaann Redlo started off strong for the Tigers, placing first in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles after clocking a personal best of 8.82 which is good enough for fifth all-time in program history. Redlo placed second overall in finals after running a 8.83.
- Sydney Tucker (7.76), Cristal Cuervo (7.85) and Maya Tucker (7.89) all qualified for finals in the 60-meter dash after placing fourth, fifth and eighth respectively. Cuervo was the top finisher for the Tigers in finals, clocking 7.77 to place fourth.
- Beighley Ayers secured the third-place spot in the mile, running a 5:09.45, which qualifies for seventh all-time in Towson history. Alexis Mogensen, Morgan Loewe and Aubrey Schaffer all earned personal records in the event as well.
- Cristal Cuervo earned Towson's first gold medal performance of the day for track events, clocking a 57.44 in the 400-meter dash.
- Jenna Zentz scored for the Tigers in the 1000 meter, placing sixth after running a 3:21.67.
- Maya Tucker ran a 25.36 in the 200 meters, placing third overall.
- Towson had two successful relay performances, placing second in the 4x800 meter (Alexis Mogensen, Beighley Ayers, Satori Valentine, Morgan Loewe) and first in the 4x400 meter (Cristal Cuervo, Maya Tucker, Amanda Tony, Emmanuel Mevo) after clocking 9:57.81 and 4:01.54 respectively.
How it Happened – Field
- Rookie Emmanuel Mevo (5.75m) picked up her first win of the day in the long jump after earning a personal record and tying the second all-time in program history.
- Fatimah Owens (17.27m) and Georgia Coleman (17.25m) placed first and second respectively in the weight throw, earning a combined 18 points for the Tigers.
- Leaann Redlo placed first in the high jump at 1.69 meters after a jump off with Bucknell's Karen Hull.
- Mevo secured her second win of the day in the triple jump, winning by .13 meters. Aliyah Anderson (11.27) and Skylar Galiano-Holmes (11.21) scored for Towson as well, placing fifth and sixth respectively.
