TOWSON, Md. – The Towson men's lacrosse team is gearing up for the 2023 season, announcing its four captains before the return to practice on Jan. 9.
Brandon Hund,
Reagan McNemar,
Ryan Swain and
Garrett Zungailia will serve as captains for the 2023 campaign.
Captains are voted on by the players. Hund becomes the second-ever Tiger to be a captain three consecutive years while Swain and Zungailia are captains for the second straight season. McNemar is a captain for the first time.
"Our 2023 team has chosen four great young men with strong leadership and character, to follow as their captains," said Towson head coach
Shawn Nadelen. "These men have worked hard at their craft as lacrosse players and leaders, and it is wonderful to see that hard work being recognized by their peers. I look forward to working with Brandon, Reagan, Ryan and Garrett as we embark on the 2023 season together."
Hund joins Zach Goodrich as the other third-straight-year captain in Towson history. A four-year short stick defensive midfielder, Hund has played in 36 career games, having 40 ground balls, 14 caused turnovers and seven assists in his career.
A fixture in the Towson midfield, Swain, a 2021 All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) First Team player, has played in 41 games with 17 starts for the Tigers. Swain has earned 25 career goals, 14 career assists and 15 career ground balls.
Zungailia has started every game the past three seasons at close defense, playing in 52 games in his collegiate career. Entering his fifth season, he has earned 120 ground balls and 47 caused turnovers in his career, being the team leader in caused turnovers last year.
McNemar, the 2022 Joseph Ferrante Memorial Scholarship recipient, moved into a starting role on close defense last season, entering his senior year having played 31 games with 20 starts. He currently has 46 career ground balls and 19 career caused turnovers.
