HAMPDEN, Mass. – The Towson University men's golf team fell two spots to finish the day in ninth place after two rounds and 36 holes of play, shooting 306.
"We have some things that need to be cleaned up after today's round," head coach
Mike Larkin commented. "There were some uncharacteristic big numbers and some poor speed control on the greens, but other than that the guys did a good job managing their way around a very difficult golf course. We'll be looking to come out and play a different level of golf tomorrow."
Host team Connecticut leads the field with a round two score of 292 to put the Huskies at a total score of 584. Boston College and Siena concluded day two with scores of 590 to tie for second. St. John's Thomas Finn was the top finisher individually after shooting his second consecutive 71. Finn currently is the only player with a score under par.
Jai Sheth remained Towson's top performer for the second day row in a row, shooting 76 to finish tied for 27
th. Sheth parred 10 holes and added two more birdies to his scorecard during this round.
Michael Matheson finished day two efforts with a 75, the team's lowest score for the second round. The freshman was on par for 12 consecutive holes before birdieing hole number 13.
Ariihau Fanna shot 76 for his second round, notching his first two birdies of the tournament.
Brad Riley finished the day with an 81, earning two birdies as well.
Matthew Gonnello saw a 10-stroke improvement from yesterday's performance for his second round, shooting a 77. The freshman parred his last five holes and notched a birdie on each nine to total two for the day.
The third and final round of the tournament begins tomorrow morning.
