Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Defeat George Mason at Burdick Pool

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's and men's swimming and diving teams took a pair of victories against George Mason in the second dual meet of the season in as many days for the Tigers' squads. The women's team defeated George Mason 198-102. The men's team beat the Patriots 189-105.

How it Happened
 
For the Women:
  • Abby O'Leary and Hayley Beutel took first and second respectively in the diving events. O'Leary posted scores of 222.23 (1m) and 228.08 (3m) to seal the victories. Beutel finished with scores of 209.48 (1m) and 212.78 (3m).
  • The 200-medley relay team of Ally Frame, Tiffany Matulis, Janine Murphy and Claire Ryland took first with a time of 1:46.40. Addie Scott, Shay Walker, Samantha Casolo and Riley Willett finished second at 1:47.62.
  • Bridget Thomas took the top spot in the 1000 free, clocking in at 10:33.02. Marissa Kleckner placed third (10:57.47).
  • In the 200 free, Scott (1:54.70) and Thomas (1:55.73) took the top two spots. Victoria Dichak narrowly missed third place at 1:56.79.
  • In the 100 back, Frame (56.89) and Murphy (58.63) finished 1-2.
  • Matulis (1:06.52), Willett (1:07.51) and Tink Thompkins (1:07.59) swept the podium in the 100 breast.
  • The Tigers took the first and third spots in the 200 fly with Casolo's 2:06.48 and Britney Denny's 2:09.58.
  • Ryland took the top spot in the 50 free with a time of 24.26.
  • Scott placed first in the 100 free with a time of 53.25. Ryland placed second at 53.66.
  • Frame took the top spot in the 200 back, clocking in at 2:04.06.
  • Denny won the 200 breast with a time of 2:27.33. Matulis (2:28.33) and Willett (2:29.26) finished 2-3.
  • Thomas (5:11.07) and Dichak (5:16.78) took the first and third spots in the 500 free.
  • Casolo's time of 58.16 was good for second in the 100 fly.
  • Denny took third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.78.
  • Dichak, Scott, Murphy and Ryland won the 400 free relay at 3:33.65.
 
For the Men:
  • Aidan Clark took the top spot on both boards, scoring 245.85 on the 1m board and 227.78 on the 3m board.
  • The 200-medley relay comprised of Evan Bota, Brian Benzing, Benjamin Eischeid and Luke Schwar took first place at 1:30.78.
  • Saint Louis transfer Teddy Ament took second place in the 1000 free with a time of 9:53.89. First year Christian Johnson placed fourth (9:58.97).
  • The Tigers went 2-3-4 in the 200 free by way of Stephen McDonald (1:44.51), Eischeid (1:44.66) and Ament (1:45.98).
  • Sean Colson (51.01), Bota (52.10) and Reed Sells (52.43) swept the podium in the 100 back.
  • Benzing took the top spot in the 100 breast with a time of 53.32, just under five seconds ahead of the next finisher. Kirill Pankov (58.97) and David Walton (59.35) finished third and fourth.
  • Theo Dietrich took second in the 200 fly with a time of 1:56.43. Carson Bauer took third place (1:57.43).
  • Schwar placed second in the 50 free, clocking in at 21.43. Daniel McLaughlin finished right behind him at 21.76.
  • Schwar placed first in the 100 free at 47.47. McLaughlin placed third (47.89).
  • Colson won the 200 back with a time of 1:49.95. Reed Sells took third place (1:55.57).
  • Benzing won the 200 breast at 2:00.36. Pankov finished third (2:09.18).
  • Ament (4:45.99), McDonald (4:48.18) and Walton (4:55.27) finished 1-2-3 in the 500 free.
  • Eischeid took second in the 100 fly with a time of 51.04. Bota (51.98) and Lee (52.00) finished third and fourth.
  • Walton (1:55.76) and Pankov (1:58.15) finished 2-3 in the 200 IM.
  • Schwar, Eischeid, McDonald and Benzing took first in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:04.70.
 
On Deck:
Next weekend, Towson's divers will compete in the Don Leas Diving Invitational and the Diving Fall Classic at Clarion University on Oct.13 and 14. The next time in the pool for the swimmers is Oct. 20 in a dual meet at Old Dominion.
