LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Towson University men's golf team finished day one of the Bucknell Invitational tied for eighth with three other teams after earning a score of 296 (+16).
Ariihau Faana had a standout performance, finishing in the top-3 as one of four players to be under par.
Colgate and Long Island University lead the field tied for first with scores of 282 (+2). LIU's Lewis Wright earned the top individual spot with a 66 (-4).
Freshman
Ariihau Faana led the Tigers' day one efforts, finishing in second place overall after firing a season low 67 for his first 18 holes. The freshman was even par for the front nine, offsetting one bogey with a birdie. Faana wrapped up the round with three more birdies and a hole in one eagle during the back nine, finishing at 3-under par. The Hawaii native was one of four golfers in the 108-player field to record an eagle for round one.
Poon Nantsupawat finished his first round tied for 28
th after shooting 74. Nantsupawat notched a birdie and was on par for 12 of the 18 holes. He was 2-over par for the front and back nine to wrap up day one play 4-over.
Michael Matheson completed round one after shooting 77, notching two birdies.
Sky Aung and
Brad Riley finished within one stroke of each other, scoring 78 and 79 respectively.
Play resumes for the second round of 18 holes tomorrow morning.
