Philadelphia, PA – This has proven to be quite a successful week for the Towson University gymnastics team as the Tigers picked up two back-to-back victories at quad meets. The Black & Gold defeated University of Pennsylvania, West Chester and Ursinus after putting a 3.40-point margin between them and the second-place finisher. The Tigers concluded the meet with a season high 196.450, improving from Friday nights score by nearly a full point. Towson remained in the lead throughout all four rotations.
West Chester was the runner up with a 193.050, barely outscoring host team Penn who finished in third after posting 193.025. Ursinus rounded out the competition, finishing in fourth with a 185.025.
West Chester's Kristina Rodriguez was the lone all-arounder, receiving a 38.600 at the conclusion of the meet.
Grace Vaillancourt and
Paige Casper collected new career bests while 11 others earned season highs. Towson picked up nine top-three finishes, including first places from Polina Belanovksi (vault),
Grace Vaillancourt (bars) and
Paige Casper (beam). The Tigers were the top finishers in every event individually except beam, which was claimed by Penn's Mccaleigh Marr.
How it Happened:
Bars – 49.375
- Lauren Keener and Clara Hong opened the meet for the Tigers with a pair of 9.825s.
- Lauren Greene followed, matching her season high of 9.850.
- Grace Vaillancourt posted a huge career best of 9.950, which ties her for second in program history in the event. The junior placed first individually for the second time this season.
- Isabella Minervini wrapped up the rotation for the Tigers with a 9.925, her second best score this season. She finished right behind Vaillancourt in second place.
- Narrowly missing their program best team score earned Friday night, the Tigers still posted the second-best bars score in school history.
- The Black & Gold also swept the event, with every Tiger claiming the first six spots.
- Towson captured the lead early, finishing the rotation in first.
Beam – 48.775
- Lauren Bolen started off the rotation strong for Towson, matching her season high of 9.750.
- For her second time competing in the lineup this season Cassidy Stuart posted a season high 9.800. The junior earned a spot on the podium, finishing in second.
- Sarah Girot tied for second with Stuart after receiving a 9.800 as well.
- Jenna Weitz posted a 9.725 to match her season high.
- Towson remained in the lead after the second rotation
Floor – 49.350
- Clara Hong led off the rotation for the Black & Gold receiving a 9.825 which matches her season high.
- Polina Belanovski followed up with a new season best of 9.850
- Paige Casper picked up a new career best, posting a 9.925 which ties her for the sixth best score in program history.
- Amy Stewart closed out the rotation with a 9.900, matching her second highest score this season.
- The Tigers hung onto the first-place spot at the conclusion of the rotation.
Vault – 48.950
- Adrianna Hoffman matched her season high of 9.800.
- Mia Davis received a 9.800 as well, earning a new season best.
- Lauren Bolen followed up with a strong 9.825.
- Polina Belanovski finished out the rotation, matching her career best 9.900 and winning the event individually for the second meet in a row.
Behind the Numbers:
- Second highest bars score in program history.
- Fifth highest floor score in program history.
- Seventh highest team score in program history.
- Swept the bars event with every gymnast placing in the top six spots.
