COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Towson University gymnastics team earned 49+ scores in three rotations to pick up second place in the Maryland Five Meet with a 196.525 team score, its second-highest team score of the year.
Towson's 196.525 is only surpassed on the year by the team's 196.775 back on Feb. 26's home meet. The Tigers matched their highest uneven bars score of the season at 49.400, having the top score of the meet in that event.
Towson finished above a pair of East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) teams: Temple at 196.250 and George Washington at 195.450. The Tigers also defeated Yale, which finished at 192.750. Towson only trailed the meet host Maryland, which got a 197.100.
Key Stats:
- Towson gymnasts earned top individual performances in the vault and bars. Polina Belanovski earned a 9.9 in the vault while Isabella Minervini notched a 9.95 in the uneven bars.
- Three other Tigers had top-three finishes. Camille Vitoff had a 9.875 on the vault to tie for second place, Lauren Keener closed at third on the bars at 9.900 while Grace Vaillancourt got a 9.875 to tie for third on the balance beam.
- Along with winning the bars, Towson took second on the balance beam with a score of 49.050. Towson also had a 49.100 on the vault and a 48.975 on the floor exercise.
Rotation One - Vault:
- Belanovski earned a 9.9 to be one of three Tigers to pick up at least a 9.8 on the vault.
- Along with Vitoff's 9.875, Lauren Bolen earned a 9.825.
Rotation Two – Uneven Bars:
- Towson's top rotation of the afternoon saw all six participants earn at least a 9.8.
- Minervini (9.95) and Keener (9.9) led the way while Clara Hong, Steph Macasu and Grace Vaillancourt all picked up a 9.85.
