Southern Pines, NC – The Towson University men's golf team has completed day one of the Ross Collegiate Classic, finishing with a score of 304 (+18) for the first round.
Jeremy Summerson and
Justin Griffith were unable to complete the second round due to the tournament being suspended for darkness. Towson will be able to finish the second round tomorrow as play will resume at 10 a.m.
Loyola Maryland led the field of 18 teams, finishing day one with a total of –20 under par, 556.
Brad Riley led the Tigers day one efforts, finishing tied for 24th in a field of 91 players. The senior shot 144(+1) for the 36-hole event, after rounds of 71 and 73. He tallied five birdies throughout the first 18 holes, including two back-to-back for No.14 and 15. Riley is tied for fourth most par 4's in the tournament with an average of 4.00.
Jeremy Summerson was the next top finisher for Towson, ending the day tied for 34
th after a round of 79. The senior found most success during the second round where he notched five birdies, four of which were back-to-back. Before play was suspended, Summerson had one more hole to complete for the second round. He currently sits at 5-under for that round.
Justin Griffith wrapped up day one after shooting 76 for the first round. With two more holes to go for the second set of 18, he sits at 68 (+4). The senior tallied four birdies for the day.
Ryan Peters completed the day at 10-over, improving by six strokes in between rounds. He shot 80 for the first round, making three birdies. The graduate student followed up posting a 74 for the second round, adding an eagle on No.15.
Jai Sheth finished with 157 (+13). The freshman notched six birdies over the course of the 36 holes.
