Maya Tucker Breaks Program Record In 200M Dash At NSU Invite

Norfolk, VA – The sprint/jumps/throws group of the Towson University track & field team completed the Norfolk State University Invite with several top-three finishes and marks in the top-10 all-time list.

Sophomore Maya Tucker had quite a successful day, leading the Tigers with a new program record in the 200-meter dash and nearly taking down the 100 meter dash top time as well. Fatimah Owens picked up two gold medals in her respective events while Leeann Redlo and Georgia Coleman saw first place finishes as well. 

How it Happened – Track
  • The 4x100 picked up their fourth consecutive first place finish of the season, clocking the second fastest time in Towson history – 45.54. The relay made up of Ty'Liyah Hannah, Cristal Cuervo, Sydney Tucker and Maya Tucker was only .14 off of the program record.
  • Leeann Redlo competed in the 100-meter hurdles.
  • Cristal Cuervo took second in the 400-meter dash with a 56.15, the sixth fastest time in program history. 
  • Maya Tucker collected her second consecutive win in the 100-meter dash, running a new PR of 11.49. Without the 3.1 wind, the time is the fastest in program history. Sydney Tucker followed with a 11.97 to place fifth. 
  • Leeann Redlo and Jasmine Johnson competed in the 400-meter hurdles. 
  • Maya Tucker continued her victory streak, breaking the program record in the 200 meter dash after clocking a 23.42 to win the event. The sophomore crushed the previous record set by Crystal Johnson in 2021 by .33. Teammate Sydney Tucker joined her on the podium, placing third with a 24.99. 
How it Happened – Field 
  • Georgia Coleman placed first in the hammer throw, separating herself from the rest of the field by at least 5 meters. Her toss of 55.84 meters was good enough for fifth all-time in program history. Fatimah Owens was right behind her in second place with a mark of 50.56 meters which ranks ninth all-time. 
  • Leeann Redlo won the high jump for the second time this season with a mark of 1.62 meters. Aliyah Anderson placed third with a mark of 1.62 meters as well.
  • Manie Mevo (5.20m) and Kiara Murray (5.20m) tied for eighth in the long jump. Skylar Galiano-Holmes competed in the event as well.
  • Fatimah Owens took first in the discus with a toss of 47.65 meters, ranks her at third all-time in school history. Georgia Coleman followed in third place with a mark of 45.49 which also falls in the top-10 all-time list at fourth. 
  • Manie Mevo took second after posting a mark of 11.60 meters in the triple jump, placing her at ninth in the top-10 all time list. Skylar Galiano-Holmes and Aliyah Anderson competed in the event as well.
  • Kira Parsons earned a second-place finish after a toss of 37.28 meters in the javelin throw. Kiara Murray participated as well, making her debut in the event for the season.
  • Fatimah Owens grabbed her second gold medal of the day in the shot put, placing first with a throw of 13.39 meters – sixth all-time in program history. Georgia Coleman placed fourth with a mark of 12.73 meters. 
Lewisburg, PA – The distance squad completed the Bison Outdoor Classic with a couple of new PRs.

Lexi Mogensen earned a new PR in the 1500 meters, placing third in her heat with a time of 4:51.51. Morgan Loewe clocked a 4:58.50 in the same event.

Aubrey Schaffer put forth strong effort in her 10k debut, running a 37:47.67 to place second overall and eight in program history. The sophomore ran steady splits of 1:29 – 1:30 for each 400-meter mark. Schaffer had impressive splits for the 5K marks as well, clocking 18:46 and 19:01 which are not too far off of her collegiate 5K PR of 18:14.25. 

Lexi Mogensen competed in the 800 meter as well, clocking a 2:22.25 which is two seconds off of her PR. Sophia Skinner picked up a new PR in the event, clocking a 2:22.70. Satori Valentine ran a season best 2:25.51.

Up Next
The team will split up again next week as Tigers will either attend the Johns Hopkins/Loyola Invite from April 21-22 or the Morgan State Legacy Meet on April 22.
